Report Has Entry-Level AirPods Pro Going Into Production Soon

We’ve heard tentative rumors of new entry-level AirPods Pro for a few weeks, and while it isn’t clear what that might be, DigiTimes is back again. This time it says we can expect them to go into pass production soon.

How soon? According to the report it could be between the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second. Which is now, basically.

Production of an entry-level version of Apple’s AirPods Pro, dubbed tentatively AirPods Pro Lite, is expected to kick off between the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter, according to sources at chip and component suppliers engaged in the supply chain for the TWS device.

The “AirPods Pro Lite” name is one that DigiTimes continues to use, although it’s highly unlikely that’s what Apple will call them. DigiTimes hasn’t really given us any indication what these AirPods Pro Lite might actually be, either. The suspicion is that these things would be similar to AirPods Pro in appearance, but without the costly active noise canceling technology. That would allow them to be priced around AirPods prices, but with a form factor that is more likely to appeal to more people.

Tons of people like the idea of AirPods but simply can’t get them to stay in their ears.

That’s something AirPods Pro users don’t struggle with, so moving to that form factor makes plenty of sense for Apple.
