There's undoubtedly some aspects of an iOS device which no other mobile platform comes close to match, but the same can be said for top-end Android handsets like the Galaxy S4. One of the beautiful things about being able to liberate Apple devices through jailbreaking is being able to implement new features that can mimic other operating systems, which is something that shines through in the QuickGestures tweak that is now available on Cydia. More details can be found right after the jump.
We know what you're thinking; why do different app marketplaces for each mobile platform need a plethora of third-party alarm apps, when the native implementation does the job perfectly well? We have to agree to a certain extent and have always found that the simplistic alarm feature on our iPhone or Galaxy S III does a perfectly good job of getting us up in the morning. With that said, there's always room for a little innovation regardless of the app genre. And it looks like AlarMe for Android app combines necessary alarm features with a very clever weather based twist.
Ever imagined what would be the result of combining every display from every iPhone ever sold? Not exactly the latest scoop on the next hardware release to come out of Cupertino, but it's still pretty interesting to know that one single combined iPhone made out of the displays of every iPhone ever sold since the original launch in 2007 would stand over 5,000 feet tall. Sounds epic doesn't it? Read for more!
One of the pillars of the jailbreak community is Activator, a utility allowing iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to manipulate the various actions and behaviors of their beloved device. It's the basis of so many tweaks out there, and included in that growing list is a brand new entry to the BigBoss repository by the name of App Activate. Simply put, App Activate brings your home screen icons to life, allowing you to access the most relevant element of a given app by double tapping its icon. More details after the break.
Having all singing, all dancing smartphones is all well and good, but if all we're going to do with them is send messages, make calls and take photos of our food then we can't help but think they're being somewhat wasted. What happened to the imagined future that saw us living our lives through those phones, replacing other devices and outdated equipment as we go?
Apple quietly released a new iPod touch yesterday, adding a 16GB offering to the fifth generation of the popular iOS-based music player. More than just a new, smaller capacity clone of the existing models though, the 16GB iPod touch variant is actually a new design when compared to the other iPod touch models, and it even loses one or two of their features in the process.
Even though the PlayStation 3 is coming towards the end of its lifecycle as Sony's premier gaming device, that doesn't mean that development of top-notch games has ended. In fact, there are some potentially triple-A titles on the horizon, and 'Rain' has to be somewhere towards the top of that list. A short while ago, we saw a beautiful unofficial 3D render of the Xbox One courtesy of Sketchfab, and to accompany that, Microsoft has delivered some insight into the design of its upcoming console in a new video posted to YouTube. The clip, which is entitled “Xbox One and Design” looks at how the aesthetics of the Xbox One came about, and how, in turn, the Kinect 2 and Xbox One Controller were also crafted in its image to create a very uniform product line.
HTC's One has followed in the footsteps of the Galaxy S4 (aside from the obvious) in releasing as a stock Android variant, doing away with Sense 5, BlinkFeed, and all the other packaged software taking up that valuable storage space. It was announced by Google's Sundar Pichai at D11, and means consumers can get hold of the HTC One running Android and only Android.
Microsoft's Xbox One is a fairly good looking device. Yes, granted, it is a little bit set-top boxy for some people's liking, but all told, it will make a nice aesthetic impression on most living rooms. Some unofficial renders of the machine have just popped up on Sketchfab, and if you fancy taking a closer look at the forthcoming Microsoft console, now you can. Bear in mind, these are not endorsed officially by Microsoft, but since Xbox LIVE's Larry Hryb a.k.a. Major Nelson tweeted about the designs, they've at least been dealt an air of legitimacy.
