Microsoft has dominated the headlines over the past couple of weeks with its very public preparations for the launch of the Xbox One. But the present days are all about Sony and the PlayStation 4, though, and as well as announcing the PS4 release date, the Japanese company has taken the opportunity at Cologne-based Gamescom to announce some interesting news regarding the all-important initial titles. There will be no fewer than 33 games available for the next-gen machine by the year's close, and although the sum total doesn't quite match the number of titles available for the Xbox One, there's still plenty of variety therein.
We've seen plenty of leaks of the low-cost iPhone 5C's rear shell; so much so, in fact, that it's almost as if Apple has already announced it. But while we may have seen it compared with the likes of the iPhone 5, we haven't seen how it will potentially cope with those everyday scrapes and bumps, but Taiwenese blog Apple Daily has come through with a video that shows the back cover being put to the sword. Lining up to test the resolve of the iPhone 5C's rear housing includes a collection of your day-to-day smartphone nemeses, including keys and coins. How did the soon-to-be-released handset fare against a tidal wave of objects? Find out after the break!
While clamshell devices have been regarded by most consumers as a distant memory in today's mobile world, Samsung simply will not let the form factor drop. We've already seen and heard quite a few reports out of Korea suggesting the S4-maker was planning to release a series of flip phones, and today, a short while after announcing the Samsung Hennessy, the company has announced the Galaxy Golden. It features two displays, the antiquated flip styling, and, all told, a fairly decent set of hardware specs. Details after the break!
Although 1080p currently sets the bar to what the technology industry considers to be full HD, devices supportive of 4K ultra HD continue to rise to prominence. Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will, to varying degrees, offer 4K output, and now, a forthcoming update the Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) standard means smartphones could soon be able to process 4K video via USB connection. The standards come into play from September, and with backing from some of the biggest names in mobile space, 4K does seem as though it is being groomed for mass-market adoption.
When you spend a lot of money on a gadget, it stands to reason that you'll pony up a little more on a suitable protective case and some useful accessories. Although the iPad mini was, in the eyes of many, supposed to be a significantly cheaper alternative to the full-size model, it turns out that Apple likes to keep prices high across the board; who'd have thought? Still, if you have an iPad mini, and are looking for some decent products to enhance the experience, look no further than the new Folio range from Logitech, a duo of high-grade new cases helping you increase productivity as well as protection.
Yesterday, we shared with you that YouTube v5.0 had been seeded to users by Google. Up until now however, this new version has been reserved for Android users, but we quickly found out that an iOS version was on the horizon - and it just dropped onto the App Store in the form of YouTube v2.0 for iOS. As Ben pointed out in his earlier post, the biggest change in this update is without doubt the new in-app multitasking functionality that allows you to watch a video, and browse the app itself with ease simultaneously.
Gaming fans looking to pick up Microsoft's Xbox One on launch day this November will be able to choose from a rather vast array of games when they get the shrink wrap off their new piece of kit after Microsoft made available a list of games that will be available at launch.
Google yesterday announced a new, and considerably altered YouTube for Android app, but at the time the search behemoth was keeping mum on when the loveliness would make its way to Apple's iOS devices like the iPhone and the iPad. It turns out that despite the silence, those packing Apple's smartphones and tablets didn't need to wait too long for parity with their Android-toting friends. Just 24 hours, in fact.
September 4th is the expected date of the arrival of Samsung's Galaxy Note 3, a device that smartphone fans have been waiting on ever since the company released its flagship Galaxy S4 some months back. But alongside that unveiling, we're anticipating the very first smart watch effort from the South Korean outfit in the form of the Galaxy Gear. Today, for the very first time, GigaOM has divulged some of the specs of the wearable gadget, and although there aren't as many details as some prospective Galaxy Gear owners might have liked, we finally have some reliable knowledge about the device's hardware.
One of the major annoyances of many an Android user is the fact that when a new software update comes around, it can often take weeks or even months to reach even some of the newer devices to market. Google's release of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in July has only, thus far, been primed and distributed to a handful of devices, and many, such as HTC's flagship One, are still waiting in the cold. However HTC's Jason Mackenzie has revealed on Twitter that the company is looking to have Android 4.3 ready for its prized smartphone by the end of next month.
