It has long since been the case that users switch from Android smartphones to iPhones in larger proportions, but more so than ever, the trend is increasing. According to a study by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, more Android users made the jump to Apple's iPhone this year than ever before, and although many of those picking up the new iPhone 5s / 5c were previously owners of an older iPhone, the Cupertino firm will surely be encouraged to see more and more consumers ditching Google's OS for its own ecosystem.
Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 5 has been the biggest-selling console title of this year, breaking several early sales records since its release in September. Many millions of gamers had been waiting years on its arrival, and barring a few technical glitches with GTA Online and whatnot, most have deemed the latest in the popular free-for-all classic series to have been worth the lengthy delay. To supplement the title, iFruit for iOS (and rather belatedly), Android, have given those running either of the two main mobile OSes an even richer experience, and although Windows Phone, as ever, remains bereft of any official support, a new third-party app for Microsoft's platform could serve as the perfect accompaniment to GTA 5.
Apple is a company constantly shrouded in mystery, and thus, speculation. For a great deal of time, it has been said that the Cupertino would be looking to expand upon the Apple TV set-top box with a more grandiose delve into the television market, but while many an analyst has stepped forward and suggested that this will be the case, the little black box famously coined as a "hobby" by Tim Cook remains the iPad maker's sole contribution.
Tweetbot has certainly built up a strong reputation among Twitter users on Apple products, and with the big Tweetbot 3 release for iPhone and iPod touch just a short while ago, the app's publishers have already come through with a rather handsome update. Having apparently recooked the UI from the ground up over the previous version, one or two of Tweetbot 2's most popular features seemed to have been dragged away by the cull, but as the process of continual improvement enters the next stage, Tweetbot 3.1 sees the restoration of some of the app's most useful quirks.
One of the great things about always carrying a smartphone like the iPhone around in our pockets is the ability to almost instantly capture the beauty of any situation or environment. Apple has done a great job of providing us with instant access to the Camera app on the iPhone and iPod touch, meaning that those precious moments that may have been missed at one point can now be captured in a still photograph or full, high-definition video. But, what happens when a photograph just doesn't cut it and a 1080p video is overkill? The makers of the Bubbli app for iPhone and iPod touch believe their software is the perfect answer and is "the next best thing to being there". And furthermore, it brings the famed Android Photosphere feature to Apple's famed smartphone.
Things seem to be on the upside for BitTorrent Sync. The service that allows users to synchronize files without the use of Dropbox or other cloud based storage alternatives has just announced that it has hit a milestone that must have initially seemed out of reach. It's also been announced that the BitTorrent Sync offering will be greatly improved for the end users with the addition of third-party developer access as well as extending the current mobile distribution to appeal to a greater number of iOS users.
Following on the footsteps of Microsoft unboxing the Xbox One, Sony has put up an official video on its PlayStation channel on YouTube, unboxing the PlayStation 4 and showing the world what they’ll get in the box once it hits the shelves come this Friday.
We've been hearing a great deal about Google Glass over the course of 2013. Almost 10,000 lucky technology enthusiasts have been putting the wearable tech through its paces since Google opened up the Glass program earlier in the year. There's been a renewed focus on the Glass project in the last few weeks, with Google recently announcing that they are planning on expanding the initiative to allow those early beta testers to invite an additional three people each to get in on the Glass action.
The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were the big releases of the time when they were made available to the public, and rightly so, but as everyone probably remembers there were also some cool new accessories to go along with each new smartphone. If you bought a new iPhone, the chances are you at least considered picking up one of the new first-party cases, and if you went through with it, you've no doubt also noticed a problem.
No matter which side of the fence you sit on when it comes to websites having their own apps on desktop devices, it has to be said that it it's good to see those apps getting updated. Facebook hasn't always been known for getting updates to its mobile apps out in a timely fashion, but that hasn't stopped the social network from setting things straight when it comes to its Windows 8.1 app. More details can be found right here.
