iPhone 6 Tops 4 Million Reservations In China In Just 24 Hours

Ben Reid·October 4, 2014
Given the sheer population of China along with its market's considerable interest in Apple products as a whole, it's not too much of a shock that the launch date of the iPhone 6 in China is, once again, lagging considerably behind the UK / US roll-out. In the countries where the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is already available, Apple has enjoyed impressive early sales, but if Chinese reservation figures are anything to go on, the best may still be yet to come. Pre-orders have not yet commenced, but many retailers have started taking reservations in advance of the October 17th release, and having originally reported that 2 million iPhone 6s had been reserved in just 6 hours, the sum total for the first-day of reservations stands at a whopping 4 million.

VLC Media Player For Windows 8.1 Released, Get Downloading Now

Ben Reid·October 3, 2014
It took quite a while for VideoLan to bring forth a Metro-fied version of its famed VLC media player app for Windows 8, but despite the lengthy delay, it was definitely worth the wait. Late on last year, Microsoft went ahead and pushed Windows 8.1, a reasonably tweaked and improved version of the original Windows 8, and although it has once again taken a while, VLC for Windows 8.1 is now upon us. Full details, as well the all-important download link, can be seen after the break.

iPhone 6 Plus Accounts For 60% Of Total iPhone 6 Shipments

Ben Reid·October 3, 2014
Apple's iPhone 6, which first hit the scene two weeks ago, managed to shift ten million units in its first three days alone, and at the time, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 accounted for the lion's share of sales. This may, at least in part, have been due to the fact that the iPhone 6 Plus wasn't as readily available, and whether down to the reported production delays or an underestimation of the larger model's popularity, the Plus's shipping times quickly pushed back to 3-4 weeks. Now, it looks like the admiration of Apple's phablet is beginning to show, with a new report suggesting that the 5.5-inch handset is accounting for three in every five iPhone 6 models being shipped at present.

Paul Morris·October 3, 2014
The list of advertised features should be more than enough to convince even the most reluctant user that Apple's new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones are a worthy competitor to any device on the market. With that said, if you're one of the few still sitting on the fence, unable to make your mind up about the jumbo-sized iPhone 6 Plus, then maybe this little video will push you over the edge.

This Third-Party Emoji Keyboard For iOS 8 Makes Apple’s Offering Look Outdated

Uzair Ghani·October 3, 2014
Posting an update to any social network - or sending out a plain old IM - without an emoji is considered a minor sin these days. And while iOS does feature a brilliant built-in emoji keyboard to get things done, but Apple’s implementation does lack a few things which this new third-party iOS 8 keyboard swiftly fulfills.

Android L Update For Galaxy S5 Demoed In 8-Minute Video

Ben Reid·October 3, 2014
October will be a huge month for Android. As well as the introduction of Google's new Moto X-like Nexus smartphone, there's also the small matter of the rumored Android L release to contend with, and although the Nexus will surely be the first to ship with the Big G's new mobile OS out of the box, Samsung's flagship Galaxy S5 won't be too far behind. In spite of the fact that we don't know precisely when Android L will roll out, let alone when it will hit the S5, a video has already hit the Web showing the Korean company's prized asset running on the impending software.

iPhone 6 Vs Galaxy S5 Vs HTC One M8 – The Ultimate Flagship Speed Test [Video]

Ben Reid·October 3, 2014
Apple's iPhone 6 may have enjoyed a blistering start during its first few weeks on sale, but it still faces stiff competition from other high-end handsets available across the industry, and if you're still on the fence with regards to which device best suits you, then you've probably been reading a lot of specs sheets. But while a big, beefy processor should keep things running smoothly and with great fluidity, the real-world speed can only be determined by using a device to perform a multitude of day-to-day tasks, and in the most comprehensive speed comparison to date, we get to see how the iPhone 6 stands up against both the HTC One M8 and Samsung's flagship Galaxy S5.

Watch: Samsung Releases Official Galaxy Note 4 Bend Test Video

Ben Reid·October 3, 2014
Samsung versus Apple is one of the most fiercely contested battles in the mobile industry, but while these two titans of tech regularly astonish us with their products, they're both often inclined to take matters down to an infantile, school yard level. When Apple first launched the iPhone 6 early last month, the Korean outfit was one of a host of companies to baulk at its rival's decision to implement features that it, along with others, had been peddling for years, and with the recent Bendgate scandal - such as it is - Sammy has once again attempted to laud over its arch nemesis.

iOS 8.1 Will Let You Select Between 2G, 3G Or LTE Option

Ben Reid·October 2, 2014
Apple's iOS 8.1 beta 1 was pushed to developers earlier on this week, and as well as gaining a decent insight with regards to its features, we now have what is claimed to be a solid release date in October 20th. Apple Pay is set to be the flagship implementation of the next major update, but there are a number of other tweaks besides, and thanks to the digging of one eagle-eyed developer looking into the features of iOS 8.1 beta, it has also emerged that Apple will offer much better flexibility when it comes to data usage through voice calling.

New And Detailed Nexus 6 Renders Reveal Stark Similarities To 2nd-Gen Moto X [Images]

Ben Reid·October 2, 2014
From what we know of the upcoming Google Nexus 6, should that indeed be its name, it will include a large, 2K display, run on the all-new Android L, and instead of LG, will this time be manufactured by Motorola. Given that the Google subsidiary has taken the manufacturing reigns, it should come as no surprise that the leaks of the Nexus 6 have revealed a number of Motorola-inspired design quirks, and in a new set of renders, we get clear look of the overall aesthetic.
