New MPAA Site Helps Users Find Legal Movie, TV Shows Streaming Sources

Zayed Rehman·November 21, 2014
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has taken a rather surprising step with the launch of a website called WhereToWatch. The MPAA is apparently dialing it down a bit as far as online streaming of movies and TV shows is concerned. WhereToWatch lets you search for your favorite movie or TV show and points you to where you can legally stream it from, or rent it or buy it.

iPad 2, iPhone 4s Performance Boost On iOS 8.1.1 Gets Real-World Test [Chart]

Ben Reid·November 21, 2014
Whenever a new piece of iOS software is launched, some devices inevitably get left behind, and many, such as the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 on iOS 8, are subjected to a decidedly limited experience compared with the newer models on the market. It was always somewhat inevitable that these antiquated devices would struggle to cope with the rigors of the new, feature-rich update, and so it has proved, but Apple did promise that those who've stuck by their iPhone 4s or iPad 2 would see improvements with its iOS 8.1.1 download. Were these just empty claims, or does this week's update actually enhance the general user experience for those wielding vintage hardware?

Zayed Rehman·November 20, 2014
What came close to the awesomeness that Rocket Raccoon was with his British Cockney accent and wits in Guardians of the Galaxy was the chart busting soundtrack of the movie, with one song in particular - "Hooked on a Feeling" - totaling over 16 million counts of streaming. As part of a run up to the holiday festivities, Google is offering the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack album entitled 'Awesome Mix Vol. 1' for free on Google Play (U.S. only), and the offer is supposedly just for a day.

Here’s Why You Can’t Use Touch ID On iPhone To Unlock Right After Reboot

Ben Reid·November 20, 2014
When Touch ID, Apple's fingerprint sensor, first emerged on the scene with last year's launch of the iPhone 5s, it was dispelled by many as a gimmick. It quickly emerged that it was anything but - rather a very refined measure that enhanced security and promoted seamlessness. With iOS 8, Apple has further expanded Touch ID's reach, adding third-party support allowing banking, password management and other such apps to reap the fruits of the implementation. It's still not without its fair share of limitations, though, and among them, the fact that it doesn't immediately allow a user to log in right after a reboot. It has now emerged that this isn't an arbitrary decision imparted by Apple, but actually, is due to the secure infrastructure upon which Touch ID is based.
