Support for the Apple TV platform is growing, with additional apps hitting the tvOS App Store on an almost daily basis.. Some of those apps are entirely new, with unique experiences offered purely for tvOS users. Others are new updates to existing apps designed with the intention to support Apple TV as an additional platform in order to grow a user base. The International Cricket Council has clearly seen the benefits associated with supporting additional platforms, and as such, has released the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 cricket app to support not only iOS, but tvOS for the Apple TV, and watchOS for the Apple Watch.
Released by the ICC, the app is meant to give you the “full tournament coverage including warm-ups, videos, photos, breaking news, match highlights, statistics, and much more.” There’s also “ICC Live Match Centre with fastest ball-by-ball scores & commentary” for all the live matches. The official ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 app was initially rolled out as an iPhone and iPad app, but has now been updated to support both Apple TV and Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch portion of the app provides access to all of the upcoming fixtures from the upcoming World Twenty20 tournament. There’s also immediate and efficient access to live scores as well as results as soon as they are available. All of this is offered in a lovely, tailored solution that makes perfect use of the Apple Watch’s display.
Support for the Apple Watch is exciting enough, but there’s also the added benefit of a really slick and exciting Apple TV experience that’s also been thrown into the mix. As this is an official app experience, Apple TV users can get immediate access to match highlights and additional videos that are broken down into specific sections and categories. There are video polls, high quality interviews with players and coaches, and top match play streaming media, all delivered in HD quality.
On the iOS side of things, the app adds a built-in Social Hub, the ability to check current league standings, and a constantly updated stream of high-quality photos from all ICC World Twenty20 fixtures, among all the other regular features. Given the popularity of cricket across the world, and in particular the rising popularity of the exciting Twenty20 format, this one is likely to be a highly welcome addition for those rising cricket fans.
