Nokia Relaunches New And Improved HERE Maps App For iPhone [Download Link]

The Nokia HERE maps app for iOS is back on the App Store, and hopefully this time it will be staying. Head over the jump to catch the details of the re-release and closer look at the app.

HERE maps has been a pretty slick title for Nokia phones and the Android platform for quite some time now, owing most of its success to the offline mode which helps users get around their location through maps saved onto the device itself, thereby eliminating the need for a data connection in most circumstances. Having been released on the iOS platform somewhere in October 2012, the app was pulled from the App Store a year later in 2013 citing iOS 7 as the culprit which was making for a sorry experience of the app on iPhones and iPads.

Almost two years later, the feature-rich app is back and along with the offline maps feature that most users would have come to expect. The offline maps can be used for searching for directions, finding your own location in relevance to the map, and pretty much everything that one comes to expect from an app of this type.

The HERE app carries around 150 maps that can be downloaded onto your iPhone for offline usage, and in a way does maintain its ground against the likes of Google Maps and Apple Maps.

Other cool features include the ability to filter between directions, so users can chalk out walking paths from one place to another. There’s turn-by-turn navigation support for driving around with audible prompts, complete with spoken street names, as well as a much handy public transit data map for over 950 cities.

Interestingly, when users do have access to a data connection, the app’s “Hybrid engine” will work with your saved maps and pull in additional information as well where it can for live traffic, real-time public transit, and even photos and reviews for various places shown on the map, giving the user a more interactive feed of everything. Additionally, users can also save points of interest and keep track of them by adding them in the ‘Collections’ feature.
