Microsoft's Surface RT has not been the most successful of tablets since its release late last year, and although a myriad of factors have contributed to its shortcoming in the market, the fact is that tens of thousands of units remain unsold. As such, Microsoft has already dropped the price on a couple of occasions to try and boost sales, but with today being Black Friday and all, Micro Center has come through with an exceptional deal offering both the Surface RT and a Touch Cover for just $179.
The Microsoft Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 have seen the light of the day, and as any other company would do, the Redmond technology giant is all about marketing and promoting the new hardware, to make sure that they become a true success. We’ve seen a lot of marketing ploys in the past as well - and not just from Microsoft, either - including Google’s Android statues and Apple’s TV ads. However, never once have we seen anything like what Microsoft has done in London’s Trafalgar Square, where the company has placed a 27 feet wide and 17 feet tall mockup of the newly-released Surface 2, all in the name of good marketing.
We already know that Microsoft is committed to prove themselves as a hardware company. The introduction of the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 in New York last month pretty much confirmed that the Redmond based company aren't planning on licking their original Surface wounds and shying away from a competitive market. October 22nd is the date that was given during that dedicated event, and as the launch date gets ever closer, we are now seeing some Surface 2 promotional videos that show consumers exactly what they'll be getting if they part with their hard earned dollars.
Microsoft has just showcased the new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, as well as announcing details on features, price and general availability. Here, we take a look at the accessories the Redmond company will be releasing to accompany the experience, including improved docks and innovative cases.
Microsoft's Surface tablet may still be a relatively new device to market, but already the company is looking ahead to the Surface 2, and with speculation having been on and off for the past couple of months, including a set of leaked Surface Pro 2 specs in the last few days, the company has officially announced an event in New York on 23rd September. Details after the break!
Microsoft's Surface Pro tablet mightn't have caused the level of fuss that the Redmond company was hoping for, but there's no doubting that it is a very capable device. Offering the Windows experience as the software maker intended, the tablet-plus-notebook has almost hit the end of its shelf life some nine months after its initial release, and with IFA now underway, talk of its successor has been rife. Today, Neowin has gotten hold of some interesting details pertaining the Surface Pro 2, which will get the customary spec bump as well as a newly-designed kickstand. More information can be found after the leap!
Microsoft has worked hard to establish itself in the tablet space, and its first effort, the Surface, has been the subject of much critical acclaim. Yet the estimated sales figures posted by the Redmond at its annual Form 10-K with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing suggests there's much work to be done if the company is to compete with some of the big players in the game. With Surface, Microsoft took the hybrid approach to target both iPad like form factor and the Ultrabook market, but with less than impressive sales as demonstrated here, neither field will be feeling the heat from the Surface range.
Smartwatches have suddenly become the next big thing, with almost every other major tech company rumored to be getting into the same line of product sometime soon. That’s not all - even startups like Agent and Pebble have made quite some splash in the otherwise calm market that was dominated solely by Sony’s SmartWatch until recently. Now, it seems that while Apple’s iWatch might still remain a distant dream, Microsoft’s fans would actually be seeing something worthwhile in the form of a translucent, aluminum encased smartwatch, according to sources familiar with the matter.
As soon as I am done getting this news to you, I am heading out to the nearest Staples store. Oh wait – that’s not really needed until July 14, because that’s when the pricing for all Surface RT models is being cut by $150.
Microsoft's Surface Pro hasn’t really enjoyed relative success since its official launch back in January, and according to a new retail listing, a 256GB variant is soon to be headed to the U.S. market. In what will certainly go down as a win for power users looking for vast quantities of storage real estate, the device will cost $1199, and since the leaked listing has been sourced through one of the Redmond's authorized resellers, should be available very, very soon.
