Today, we're going to run through a total of four great apps that can be snapped up for no cost whatsoever over at the App Store, and if your iOS device's home screen is looking a little scant, then we've got the antidote right after the break!

Brand New Google Docs, Sheets iPhone, iPad And Android Apps Released [Download Links]

Ben Reid·April 30, 2014
The productivity apps market is fiercely contested as far as mobile devices are concerned, and while it has taken a while for Microsoft to port its iconic Office suite over to Apple's iOS, there exists a sizeable batch of useful alternatives. Along with Apple's own iWork and the aforementioned Office from Microsoft, Google has now sought to get in on the act by releasing an official Google Docs app for the Cupertino's mobile platform and its very own Android OS, alongside a further 'Google Sheets' app for all of your spreadsheet needs. Details and download links can be found below.

Ben Reid·April 29, 2014
The App Store has been inundated with photo and video-related apps over the past couple of years, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise given the significant advances that have been made with regards to smartphone camera tech. But it's a fair assessment to make that a large portion of said apps seem to wallow in the pool of mediocrity, and only every now and then do we catch a real gem. Snapseed was a prime example of an image editor with a truly professional edge, and now, the app widely regarded as the best in show for videographers has just gone free!

Apple Blasted For Leaving iOS Vulnerable To Security Flaws Weeks After Patching OS X

Oliver Haslam·April 24, 2014
Apple's decision to keep OS X and iOS as close to each other as possible when it comes to the underlying technology that powers them both has been beneficial to the firm in the past. Unfortunately that also means that some security holes found in one are likely to also be evident in the other, meaning both will require patching. Conventional wisdom says that if you have two platforms with the same security problem, you patch them both at the same time, but it seems nobody told the folks at Apple, leaving one security researcher to lay into the company over the matter.

Apple Has Sold 43.7 Million iPhones And 16.3 Million iPads In Q2 2014

Ben Reid·April 24, 2014
Apple's Q2 FY14 earnings call on Wednesday revealed that the sales figures of certain products have not been as strong nor impressive as in previous years, with the iPad numbers in particular having faltered year-on-year. But given the growing number of competitors in both the tablet industry and the emerging "phablet" market, this is perhaps to be expected, and even the popularity of the all new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display haven't prevented sales of the Apple slab from dipping somewhat.

How To Install New Fonts On iPhone And iPad Without Jailbreaking

Ben Reid·April 19, 2014
Apple's iOS is commonly referred to as a "walled garden," a label used to described the subtle limitations attached to a closed source piece of software. But every now and then, we're reminded that Apple's mobile operating system isn't a completely fusty old stick-in-the-mud, and that actually, there are means of customizing the experience without having to resort to a jailbreak. AnyFont, an app that lets you install custom TrueType and OpenType fonts, is a prime example, and for $1.99 over at the App Store, is well worth checking out.

Sketchy Photos Show iOS 8 Beta Running On iPhone 5s

Ben Reid·April 19, 2014
We've had some pretty decent insight into iOS 8 of late, and with this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2014) kicking off in early June, it has also been reported that internal testing is being ramped up in anticipation for the beta roll-out. Now, images of an iPhone 5s supposedly running the forthcoming software have leaked into the wild, and although there's no way of telling whether or not we're looking at the real deal or a nifty bit of fakery, the pixelated nature of the snaps suggest the latter.
