Today's the day, folks, and as everybody brace themselves for a first look at the iPhone 5, we're just reminding you guys that we will indeed have every little detail covered right here at Redmond Pie. With a plethora of different announcements expected aside from the holy grail that is the smartphone, it's an exciting day in prospect for any tech fan, and whatever Apple decides to unveil today, we'll have it right here for your reading pleasure.
In about 17 hours from the time I type this, Apple will open the doors at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California where they will be announcing the next iPhone. We have seen plenty of rumors and reports and leaks over the past few weeks and months which give a definite shape to the illusive device’s hardware, but there’s one thing in the air that is still heavily discussed and, so far, inconclusive: the next iPhone’s name.
As the release of the iPhone 5 draws nearer, more and more reports have indicated what we might be seeing with the purported iPod range refresh. With most using their smartphones as digital music players, it's easy to see why the iPod has been left somewhat in the shade, but it certainly looks as though Apple isn't about to ditch its iconic brand of portable entertainment.
I don't mind admitting that I am hugely looking forward to the announcement and release of the new iPhone, as it is almost here, and the excitement will quickly subside and I'll be looking for my next Apple hardware related thrill. Thankfully for me and countless others, rumor has it that Apple is set to announce a lot of new and updated devices in the coming months, with one of those being the speculated iPad Mini that could be with us before the holiday shopping season gets into full swing.
Although sales of the iPod touch have been declining in recent years, it still remains one of the most powerful and aesthetically attractive devices of its kind on the market. With fairly powerful technical specifications, large internal storage and additional benefits like the Retina display, access to the official iOS App Store for downloading apps and games, it isn't hard to see why Apple is so proud of their little media powerhouse.
Although Apple is planning on taking to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts tomorrow to hold their much anticipated press event, we can't be exactly sure what they are going to announce. It's pretty much nailed on that we will see the new iPhone appearing as well as some announcements surrounding the availability of iOS 6. But as yet, we don't have any indication on whether Apple will make it all about the iPhone or introduce some additional hardware such as the rumored miniature iPad or possibly a couple of new iPods. Thankfully we don't have long to wait to find out.
Seldom a year goes by when a new iPhone is about to hit the market, and at least one of the carriers doesn't appear to pull out all the stops in an effort to reel in as many new customers as possible. In fact, each mobile data provider pulls at least one uncharacteristic stunt annually, but T-Mobile's latest promotion is one of the most intriguing we've ever seen.
Scarcely does a major software update release without bringing problems for at least some users, and whilst not everybody would consider OS X Mountain Lion as "major," it certainly presented many MacBook users with something of a headache.
According to a report over at the hit-and-miss DigiTimes, a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display - along with updated spec iMacs - are shipping to Apple's upstream supply chain. DigiTimes has, as is often the case, latched onto the story via sources from within said supply chain, and reports the 13.3" MacBook Pro with Retina display should be upon us within the next six weeks.
Although we are now officially on Mac OS X 10.8.1 and enjoying all of the fantastic benefits which Apple's Mountain Lion operating system brings, some users are just getting around to sampling some of the improvements that OS X Lion brought to the party. One of the features which Apple bundled into OS X 10.7 was the rather fantastic but under-appreciated AirDrop functionality that allows files to be transferred between compatible Macs connected to the same network.
