Grok AI Voice Mode Is Now Available Via Apple CarPlay

Users of the Grok AI service can now talk to their chatbot while driving after the app gained support for Apple’s CarPlay functionality.

While Grok has been available for the iPhone for a while, it only offered a placeholder for the CarPlay functionality, saying that it was on the way soon.

Now the Grok AI feature is available to all iPhone owners who use Apple CarPlay, matching the functionality that comes built into Tesla vehicles.

However, like all other AI chatbots, Grok can only be used in a voice-only manner, so there is no way to type a response or read any information that the chatbot returns. The whole experience is voice-only, similar to that of the built-in Siri functionality.

Apple has allowed chatbots to function as part of the CarPlay experience since the release of iOS 26.4, but it requires developers to do some work to make sure that their apps are functional. While we knew that Grok was going to support CarPlay eventually, there was no firm idea as to when that would be.

Grok is far from the first to take advantage of CarPlay. OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Perplexity are already available and offer similar functionality for fans of those chatbots.

The new Grok update is available from the App Store now, and you’ll need to update the app to make use of this functionality.
