We finally saw an end to the long drawn out affair that was Microsoft's courtship of Nokia a few days back when it was announced that the Redmond firm would be buying Nokia, or at least the interesting parts of it. Microsoft's biggest Windows Phone partner, Nokia, has arguably been the one OEM that has thrown all its weight behind the Windows Phone platform, and with good reason. Microsoft famously paid a small - or not so small - fortune to get Nokia to make Windows Phone handsets exclusively and it was perhaps only a matter of time before a purchase was made.
We have Angry Birds, we have Temple Run and we have Plants vs. Zombies. Mobile platforms like Android and iOS have spawned other successful gaming franchises, but the aforementioned three are the hugely successful ones that immediately spring to mind. The initial success of the first Plants vs. Zombies game by PopCap paved the way for the recently released sequel, but there was a slight hitch, in that it was only pushed to the iOS App Store, which as you can imagine ruffled a few Android feathers. That problem has now been sort of rectified by the developers.
FCC is proving to be the Leaky Cauldron these days (Harry Potter fan, anyone?), with respect to shedding more light on upcoming devices, especially when it comes to something as big as the (possible) new Nexus 5 from LG. Just recently, the agency has published (perhaps unintentionally) a series of what appears to be the internal and external photos of the new Nexus 5 Android smartphone as a joint venture between Google & LG.
The month of August is often the time when families come together to go on a relaxing summer holiday. The kids are off school. The students are usually on an extended break from college or university making it the perfect time for relaxation and vacation. However, it seems that not everyone favors this relaxing mentality, with Internet security company Symantec stating that in August alone more than 1,000 fraudulent and potentially malicious apps were uploaded into the Android ecosystem via the Google Play Store.
Nokia has been one of the leaders in smartphone innovation for a long time, before the Finnish giant lost out to iPhone and Android, so much so that the whole hardware division of Nokia was acquired by Microsoft just a few days ago. I have personally always strongly believed that Nokia would’ve done well to keep up with the changing market trend and combined their remarkable hardware with Google’s open source Android to make the perfect smartphone. While that never happened owing to the company’s partnership with Microsoft, it might come true now, as Nokia’s Asia Pacific (former) CEO, Thomas Zilliacus, has spun off a new company from Nokia with the aim to do just that.
As most of you will know by now, the next version of Android is to be called KitKat, and the maker of the popular sweet snack has just unwrapped its contest as part of the promotional collaboration. Hitherto, the landing page has simply displayed a KitKat themed page, but now, the competition is very much up and running. With one thousand Nexus 7 2013 tablets to be won, and a plethora of other prizes including Google Play Store credit and KitKats, it's definitely not a competition to be missed.
If you’ve ever used a Samsung Galaxy device, more specifically a Galaxy S4 in this case, then you’re probably aware of S View. If your device supports a flip-style magnetic cover, then you can get that very same feature on your Android device right now.
Nexus lineup of devices is the prime of Android, being the first in line for any updates and generally spelling out a smartphone or tablet that will receive the maximum love from the Mountain View-based Google. In the recent days, Nexus 5 has become a very shady subject over the blogosphere rumor mill, and now it seems to have made an appearance in the FCC with a few interesting updates.
Samsung announced the latest version of its largest smartphone at IFA yesterday, and the Galaxy Note 3 is sure to be popular amongst both those that want to carry a mini-tablet around 24/7 and anyone who tends to turn into a big green superhero when they're mad. If you happen to fit snugly into either of those categories, then the chances are you're already we clued up on what the third generation of Galaxy Note can offer you, but if you're on the fence then you'll be on the lookout for all the information you can get.
Nokia is in between a big transition and in the process of being fully acquired by Microsoft over the coming days, but that isn't stopping its German arm from having a bit of run on the way down.
