In the run-up to last week's announcement of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, reports indicated that the next gen iPad could also see a September showcasing. That mightn't have materialized, but now, rumor has it that Apple's next event could be held a month from now, on October 15th. Apart from the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, the Cupertino company has a bunch of new products to introduce, including the Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks and a Haswell-enabled MacBook Pro with Retina display, and while we don't know exactly what Apple has in store for next month, MacGeneration seems be sure that an event is happening. More details can be found right here after the jump.
Apple finally introduced the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c last week, and with just a couple of days to go before the big launch, fans of the device are currently weighing up their options. It would seem, at least for the time being, as though consumers are drawn to the flagship iPhone 5s, and with a bunch of new features including iPhone 5s Touch ID, it's not hard to see why many have overlooked the colorful, budget iPhone 5c. Although some may see a fingerprint sensor as a bit of a gimmick, it's an intriguing feature to say the least, and in order to familiarize prospective buyers with the new implementation, Apple will be showing it off in its iconic retail stores using a demo app.
Deep down in our hearts we all knew that the iPhone 5s would launch with some kind of fingerprint scanning capabilities. We'd heard the rumors months before the actual event. We knew it was coming yet many of us still raised an eyebrow when Phil Schiller actually made it official on stage during the Cupertino based event. The inclusion of the technology definitely raises a number of security based questions, but thankfully, it is a lot more advanced.
For some reason Apple took the decision to not allow pre-orders of the new iPhone 5s. The Cupertino company don't seem to have explained that decision in any great detail, but at least we don't have long to wait until the device is officially available for purchase. In the past, the company has often changed the time on which they begin to sell their new iPhone and iPad hardware, but it has today been confirmed that orders of the iPhone 5s will begin online at 12:01am Pacific Time, on September 20th.
It seems that black and white just doesn't cut it these days when it comes to smartphones and other portable gadgets. At one point, it would have been almost unheard of that Apple would even consider releasing hardware with multiple color choices, but here we are with the iPhone 5c available in five different vivid options. The iPhone 5s’ colors have also changed, with Silver, Gold and Space Gray options being available at launch time next Friday. That new Space Gray option is likely to be extremely popular, and it has even managed to make itself at home on one of Apple's iPod nano personal music players.
The iPhone 5c, which is going to dethrone the currently-reigning iPhone 5 as its more than capable successor, has just gone on pre-order in US, UK, Australia, China, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, and should you wish to be amongst the first ones to get your hands on Apple’s colorful new hardware, you can place your orders right now for delivery starting Sept. 20.
Specific feature sets of announced smartphones will always be extremely polarizing and appeal to one user while managing to entirely bore another. What we all care about is price. How much cash we will have to part with to have that device in our lives. Apple has done a pretty great job of keeping the cost of the new iPhones down, but if that isn't enough for some, then Walmart will be offering a discount on the devices when they eventually go public.
Battery life is an important aspect of any mobile device, although it has to be said, we don't always hold it in as high a regard as we perhaps should. Even in this day and age, seldom do consumers make battery life considerations until it's too late - instead blinded by an array of impressive, if often unnecessary features. With us now being in the period between the iPhone 5s and 5c's announcement and release, we can actually take the time to assess the minor details of the two new entrants to Apple's smartphone roster, and according to FCC filings discovered by AnandTech, both handsets will offer superior battery life to the iPhone 5.
While we might have been entirely engrossed in the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launch, and while the keynote yesterday would’ve made it sound like these are the only two Apple devices in existence that are worth any mention, that doesn’t mean that the company itself has forgotten its other lineups altogether. Earlier, we reported that new Apple TV iOS 7 update will be available Sept. 18, just alongside iOS 7, and now, thanks to a tweet from MG Siegler, it appears that the set top box itself will be seeing a new iteration next month.
iPhone 5s has been announced, and while the keynote confirmed a lot of the rumors and leaks that had been circling the blogosphere for weeks now, it’s time to move on to the real world experience of the shiny new hardware (in a multitude of colors other than the traditional black and white) from the fruit company. Although it will take some time for extensive user experience feedback to develop (not really until the device actually starts shipping), initial benchmarks show that the graphic processing is actually blazing fast, blowing away the iPhone 5 by almost double the margin. Go figure!
