There was something of a bombshell greeting me when I awoke today, and it's probably fair to say that it is still sinking in. In fact, it is proving something of a big deal for many across the internet, if a quick skim of my Twitter and Facebook feeds are anything to go by.

Now that Facebook has splashed $1 billion on Instagram, users of the photo sharing social network are left with something of a quandary. With Facebook itself already finding itself to be hated by much of the online community for perceived privacy violations, some are already fearing the worst for Instagram.

As if heatgate and possible Wi-Fi problems were not enough, now we are hearing reports of new iPad users finding their tablets unable to keep hold of a 3G cellular connection without a reboot. Not exactly ideal for a machine that is, in theory at least, never meant to be turned off!

The truth is that we really don't know, other than we're fairly sure that it will not be making an appearance any time soon. At least, that's if you believe what you read on the internet. Microsoft has today released a new piece of beta software, and this time it's search-based. Called the Bing Desktop Beta, the software is, predictably, a beta release of a desktop-based search tool that Microsoft is hoping will give people a reason to make the switch to its search engine, and leave Google behind once and for all.
A newly leaked image is claimed to be of the unannounced Google Nexus tablet. Sporting a clean, black look, the tablet looks absolutely gorgeous, if not a little bare. Will it be enough to take on the iPad, though.
