Microsoft's Xbox 360 has, for a very long time, dominated the console market sales charts, and although Nintendo's 3DS may have piped it to top spot in recent times, it has still continued to enjoy one-upmanship over the PlayStation 3 in the home entertainment system bracket; that is, until now. Thanks to the record-breaking success of GTA 5, which, it would seem, nearly every gamer went out to purchase, the PlayStation 3 has leapfrogged its close rival to outsell it for the month of September in the United States.

Samsung may have been the first major company to deliver a smartwatch in the form of Galaxy Gear, but it certainly won't be the last, and with Apple also rumored to be working on a purported "iWatch" device, it would appear that Finnish outfit Nokia has similar ideas. Not only do we have some interesting patent filings that the company has just passed on to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, but there's also a neat video of the concept, offering a rough idea of how the technology might work.
The very final versions of Visual Studio 2013, .NET 4.5.1, and Team Foundation Server 2013 are now available to download for those tethered to Microsoft's MSDN dev network. With Windows 8.1 now making its grand entrance, the Redmond company is currently working to ensure the majority of its product line is brought up to speed, and if you are an MSDN Subscriber, you can now grab these new releases from the MSDN Subscriber Downloads page.
Here's how you can force start download of Windows 8.1, Pro, RT on your PC when Windows Store is unable to find the update for you.
Apple has certainly managed to gain the attention of the tech world with its two new iPhones, both of which were released to the consumer market towards the end of last month. The colorful iPhone 5c is the cheaper option, but the real party piece is the iPhone 5s, featuring an extensively improved camera, 64-bit processor and fingerprint sensor, among other niceties. Today, the first magazine ad of the new flagship has appeared, and as will probably be the case with much of the handset's ad campaigns as we head towards the lucrative holiday period, the Touch ID fingerprint scanner is very much the focal point.
The likes of Instagram and Vine, as well as the dramatic improvements to smartphone cameras over the past couple of years, have meant that millions more have tried their hand at amateur photography. But while the number of apps related to snapping images and capturing video is now perhaps in the tens of thousands, third-party accessories have also found a fairly good platform from which to thrive. The Olloclip for iPhone, a clip-on peripheral that allows iPhone users to manipulate the lens in all kinds of weird and wonderful ways, has been a stand-out in this field, and now, the team behind it has returned to Kickstarter in order to gain the backing of the new version of Õlloclip.
Even though playing Angry Birds is seen almost as a rite of passage for all new smartphone users, maker Rovio's presence in the world of entertainment now spans a far greater playing field than that very simple, addictive original title. Numerous spin-offs have ensued, and with products ranging from plush toys to phone cases and an Angry Birds movie in the pipeline, the Finnish outfit is easily among the most successful developers in mobile space. Today, the company has announced Angry Birds Go!, a racing game bringing Mario Kart-like fare to those annoyingly endearing little creatures. It will launch on December 11th, and we've got all of the details for your after the break!
Every time Apple releases a new smartphone, there's always that feature thrown in to get chins wagging and kick up a little frenzy otherwise known as Apple Fever. This time around, it was the bright colors of the iPhone 5c; the fingerprint sensor of the iPhone 5s. Last year, it was the larger display of the iPhone 5, which finally broke the mold, but before that, the iPhone 4S got Siri.
The iPhone launch is, for the most part, now over, and attentions have naturally turned to Apple's secondary product releases of the calendar year. The Mac Pro, which has already been officially announced, could be just a month away from release according to a report over at French Apple blog MacGeneration, which also states that both the Intel Haswell-packing MacBook Pro and new iPads will make their way to the market by the end of October.
CyanogenMod remains one of the most popular after market firmware for Android devices. Renowned for its seamless, refined operation and general functionality, it is a credit to the great Steve Kondik, the man behind CM and the newly-founded Cyanogen company. Some feared that Kondik's decision to make it official, as it were, would be to the detriment of CyanogenMod, but as we've seen over the past month, it's simply not his way. Kondik has just teased CyanogenMod running on the newly-released Galaxy Note 3, and although it's not quite ready for prime time, those in ownership of the Samsung phablet finally have some good news.
