Apple’s iPhone 16 Ultra Might Be A Whole New Model

Apple has been reported to have designs on launching a new Ultra version of its iPhone for a while but it was expected to replace the Pro Max model.

Now, a new report suggests that it’ll actually sit above it in the lineup.

The earlier reports had Apple ditching the iPhone 15 Pro Max and instead renaming it to iPhone 15 Ultra. But Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now believes that things are slightly different.

Writing in the weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman says that Apple plans to bring an iPhone Ultra to market next year, meaning the iPhone 15 Ultra isn’t going to happen.

But instead of renaming the Pro Max “the Ultra,” Apple could add an even higher-end iPhone above both Pro models. Internally, the company has discussed doing just that — potentially in time for the 2024 iPhone release.

Gurman does add that, at this moment in time, it isn’t immediately obvious how Apple would justify the new model or the increased price that it would surely demand. Camera improvements are the obvious addition of course, as could be a faster CPU and upgraded construction and materials. Gurman also points to the possibility of an even larger display than the 6.7-inch one offered by the Pro Max.

All of this does of course mean that this year’s iPhone 15 lineup is set to remain as it was this year — an iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in the mid-range while the top-tier iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will round out the lineup.
