Apple Worked On A Mac Tablet, 15-Inch MacBook Air, And More Unreleased Oddities

If there’s one thing that came out of the Apple and Epic Games trial, it was a treasure trove of emails that were never supposed to see the light of day.

In another collection of emails that have been seen over the last couple of days it’s clear Apple had a few products in the pipeline that never saw the light of day.

One of those products was a 15-inch MacBook Air that was talked about back in 2018. At the time, Apple offered a 13-inch model and later, in 2010, it added an 11-inch one. Apple ultimately decided against a 15-inch model, although rumors have been flying again in recent weeks that Apple might be set to revisit that idea.

Emails also make reference of a Mac tablet, something we knew Apple had considered but decided against.

A document from a meeting in 2007 mentions a  Mac tablet and, of course, the iPad didn’t arrive until 2010. We know that the iPhone ultimately came from work being done on a tablet – was the Mac tablet mentioned here that tablet?

Apple also reportedly mentioned an iPod Super Nano in its emails, priced at $199 and seemingly ready to launch in 2008.

That never happened, and it isn’t clear what that iPod would have offered for the $50 premium over the iPod nano. There was similar talk of a new iPod shuffle in 2008, although nothing ever came of that, either.
