Apple Rolls Out An Updated HomePod Software 15 Amid Reports Of Bricked Devices

Apple has rolled out an updated version of the HomePod Software 15 beta amid reports that some users were experiencing problems with the previous one.

A number of people found that their HomePods were either getting excessively hot, or simply breaking completely when running the previous beta. However, some of those impacted were running HomePod Software 14.6, too.

While it isn’t yet clear exactly what is going on, Apple does seem to have found something to warrant another beta release for those who are part of the AppleSeed program.

It also isn’t clear whether a new build of iOS 14.6 is in the works, given 9to5Mac’s report that it also appears to have caused problems for some users.

While 9to5Mac reported last week that some smart speakers were overheating with HomePod 15 beta, original HomePod owners are also now saying that the stable 14.6 version is bricking their products. Another user, who has over 19 HomePods, had seven (four on beta and three on version 14.6) of them suddenly turn into paperweights.

Apple’s HomePod has no way for users to restore it from the state some are finding it in right now, leaving them with no choice but to take it to an Apple Store. That could also be problematic depending on the state of AppleCare for that particular device.
