Apple Reportedly Plans Major iPad Pro Upgrades For Next Year

Apple is reportedly getting ready to offer some big upgrades to the iPad Pro starting next year, with the tablet set to get its first big redesign since it was introduced in 2018.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, writing via the Power On newsletter, says that the 2024 iPad Pro will come with a “major revamp,” noting that it will see the tablet switch to OLED displays for the first time.

I don’t see any major updates coming in 2023 to the entry-level models, the iPad mini or the Air. The iPad Pro for sure isn’t getting anything of note this year. Instead, look for a major iPad Pro revamp next spring, complete with an updated design and OLED screens for the first time.

It’s also been rumored that Apple will give the external design a refresh, although that could still be in flux. Previous rumors had Apple ready to add MagSafe to the iPad Pro in the future, although it isn’t clear whether that would also be used as some sort of reverse charging option for Apple’s iPhones.

The move to an OLED display technology would allow Apple to offer improved brightness and contrast, while possibly making the overall device thinner as well.

This all unfortunately also comes with the news that the iPad mini and iPad Air are unlikely to get big new updates in 2023.
