Apple Music Just Made It Easier To Find New Music

If there is one thing that has long been seen as a win for Spotify over Apple Music, it’s the discovery of new songs and bands. Now, it seems that Apple has taken note and has launched a Discovery Station feature designed to change things for good.

The new feature, first spotted by MacRumors, is a new radio station located under the Top Picks in the Listen Now section. It carries the Made for You label and is designed to make it easier for people to find new songs based on those that they already like.

However, while it’s based on songs that have already been listened to or are in your library, it won’t play songs that you already have so as to ensure that you’re being played songs that you might otherwise not come across.

As its name implies, the Discovery Station appears to be an algorithmically-generated station built to play music the user hasn’t heard but may like. So, it functions like the New Music Mix playlist but can play continuously.

While still perhaps not quite as solid as the Spotify approach to discoverability, this new feature is a notable improvement over the situation that Apple Music subscribers were left with before this change.

The next time you’re in the mood for new music but don’t want to listen to the same songs on repeat, this could be well worth checking out.
