Apple has just released iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 which means that you can now download the updates via the Settings app on your iPhone and iPad.

The over-the-air method is undoubtedly the best route for most people, although those who do want to install these updates manually can do exactly that using the IPSW files below.

The new updates aren’t as big as the impending iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 ones, as you’d expect, but they do include some new features. At the top of the list is iMessage Contact Key Verification which will alert people if there’s a chance that their iMessages are not going to the person that they think they are. Other changes include a new iCloud for Windows prompt when signing into a Windows machine when the PC and an iPhone aren’t on the same network.

All of this and more is now available for download on your iPhone and iPad. This is also likely to be one of the last major updates before the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 releases arrive later this fall.
