Apple Is Already Testing An M3 Max MacBook Pro

Apple is already testing a new, unconfirmed MacBook Pro with a more powerful M3 Max chip, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

The new MacBook Pro isn’t likely to be released until some time in 2024, nor is the chip that is being tested. But once it does, we can expect it to be a very powerful option.

That’s because the M3 Max is expected to come with as many as 16 CPU cores as well as 40 GPU cores to ensure that performance will be unbeaten across the rest of the Mac lineup.

In terms of configuration, Gurman says that the chip will have 12 high-performance cores paired with four efficiency cores. The MacBook Pro that is currently being tested also has 48GB of RAM.

The central processing unit includes 12 high-performance cores, which handle demanding tasks like video editing, and four efficiency cores for less-intensive applications, such as browsing the web. Compared with the top-of-the-line version of the current M2 line for laptops, the new chip has four more high-performance CPU cores and at least two additional graphics.

Apple is yet to announce the base M3 chip, let along new M3 Pro or M3 Max chips, but we can expect them next year Gurman suggests. There will also surely be a new M3 Ultra for use in an updated Mac Studio and refreshed Mac Pro at some point in the future.
