Apple Might Have Planned A Black Ceramic Apple Watch That Was Never Released

Apple might have been planning to release a black ceramic Apple Watch if some new photos posted to Twitter are any indication.

Shared by anonymous collector Mr. White, the images show a black ceramic Apple Watch casing alongside a white one. That white ceramic is the only one that Apple ever released – specifically in the form of the Apple Watch Series 5.

It didn’t get resurrected for the Apple Watch Series 6, and neither did the black one. Which is a big shame because, honestly, that black ceramic looks absolutely stunning.

Here’s how Apple described the $1300 Apple Watch Edition at launch.

The process of creating the Apple Watch Edition case begins with a high-strength zirconia powder that’s combined with alumina to achieve its rich, white color. Each case is then compression molded, sintered, and polished using a diamond slurry, which results in a remarkably smooth surface and an exquisite shine. With this precise level of workmanship, every Apple Watch Edition case takes days to make.

Perhaps Apple decided that the process of creating a black ceramic Apple Watch was too problematic, although we might never know. All we do know is that the black version looks stunning and we can only hope it does make an appearance when the Apple Watch Series 7 arrives later this year.
