Apex Legends Season 4: Release Date, New Legend, Weapon, Ranked Changes

During yesterday’s half-hour Apex Legends devstream, Respawn announced Season 4 of its award winning battle royale title, revealing salient changes and additions that it brings, including a new legend, new weapon, and a revamped ranked series.

Titled “Assimilation,” the next season kicks off on February 4 – barely a week after the game’s ongoing “Grand Soirée” event concludes. The developer steered clear of the finer details during the aforementioned devstream, leaving a little mystery in the main attractions.

New Legend – Revenant

It seems Forge may have simply been a placeholder for the heavily rumored Revenant – a former hitman turned into a “walking nightmare of steel and vestigial flesh” by Hammond Robotics. “Consumed by hate and obsessed with revenge, Revenant uses unnatural abilities to haunt his enemies and defy death,” reads his description.

Respawn is yet to show gameplay footage for the new legend, though that is likely to change as we get closer to launch day.

New Weapon – Sentinel

The Sentinel is a bolt-action sniper rifle that separates itself from the others with what the devs are calling a “charge mechanic” – a kind of alternate fire mode that will add “more decision making” to the mix.

Ranked Series 3

The next ranked series will introduce a new ranked tier above Diamond called Master, with Apex Predator to be reserved for the top 500 players on each platform. The season will be split into two halves, with player ranks resetting after the first six weeks. At the end of the season, players will be assigned the highest tier they were able to reach across the two splits. If a player manages to reach the same tier at the end of both splits, they will receive an animated version of the tier’s badge.

Moreover, each split will be played on a different map, with Split 1 (February 3 – March 23) set to be played on World’s Edge and Split 2 (March 24 – May 5) on King’s Canyon. The developer has made several tweaks to how assist points are rewarded as well.

The announcement comes with four days left in the game’s latest event. The Art Deco-themed Grand Soirée brings with it, in addition to the usual collection of exclusive cosmetics, seven different limited-time game modes, with each mode being made available for two days before being switched out for the next one.

As with the build up to the previous season, players have in-game Easter eggs to look forward to leading up to the release of Season 4, with a couple having already been added to World’s Edge.

Update 1: It seems Revenant may be coming in Season 4 after all. An animated short for the new season accidentally posted to YouTube all but confirms as much. The trailer was taken down but not before it a screenshot showing both Forge and Revenant made it to Twitter.

Update 2: Respawn didn’t take all that long to re-share the video that shows Forge being assassinated. A followup GIF shared to the Apex Legends Twitter account confirms the death of Forge at the hands of an “unknown assailant” believed to be Revenant.

Update 3: The Season 4 launch trailer reveals Revenant as the next addition to the character roster. You can watch the trailer below.
