AirPods Max Firmware ‘3C39’ Update Rolling Out Now

AirPods Max owners have a new firmware update to enjoy, with version 3C39 now available.

This is the second time Apple has released a new firmware update for the popular wireless headphones. The first arrived in December, just as AirPods Max were beginning to hit the market.

This new update carries the n3C39 designation and will replace the existing 3C16 firmware that AirPods Max users currently have installed.

While Apple doesn’t tell anyone what these firmware updates include, some had hoped that we can look forward to a fix for an issue that has plagued them for months. Some AirPods Max users report that their headphones lose battery power even when they aren’t being used, despite Apple saying the headphones should drop into a low power mode when not on someone’s head.

We don’t know whether this firmware does indeed ix that issue yet, we are likely to find out in the coming days as more and more people get the update installed. Unfortunately, there is no way to force AirPods Max to install an updated firmware but it will generally take care of itself when the headphones are charging.

Have you updated to the latest firmware yet? Let us know in the comments whether there’s been an improvement in terms of battery life or not.
