AirPods 3 Will Reportedly Use Similar Compact System-In-Package As AirPods Pro

Apple’s next AirPods release, the third generation of a breakout hit, will reportedly use a similar system-in-package (SiP) to that used in AirPods Pro.

The report comes via a new research note from TF International Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo has previously said that Apple’s AirPods 3 will look similar to AirPods Pro so it might stand to reason that similar internals will also be used.

However, the use of a similar SiP shouldn’t suggest that AirPods 3 will also get to offer active noise canceling technology. Rather, the move to an AirPods Pro-like look will allow for passive isolation that the standard AirPods can’t offer.

Kuo also expects the refreshed AirPods 3 to come as soon as the first half of 2021, two years after AirPods Pro were released.

Apple’s AirPods have been a huge hit in both standard and Pro form and multiple companies – pretty much all of them! – have tried to copy them ever since they arrived.

AirPods and AirPods Pro could be in for a big 2021 with Apple’s iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro reportedly not shipping with EarPods in the box for the first time. That could push people to buy wireless earbuds with Apple surely hoping that AirPods and AirPods Pro benefit.
