Adobe Illustrator For iPad Announced

Adobe has today announced Illustrator for iPad. The new app won’t be available anytime soon, though.

According to Adobe, it’s still early days for Illustrator on iPad, but it does plan to have it ready at some point in 2020. We’ve no idea when that will be, but you can at least sign up to get early access and updates as the development progresses.

Interestingly, Adobe seems determined to make sure that this version of Illustrator takes full advantage of the fact that it will be running on a tablet device.

What’s our vision for Illustrator on the iPad? We’re still in the early stages, but fundamentally, we’re reimagining the Illustrator experience from the ground up to take advantage of the unique capabilities a tablet offers in terms of touch and Apple pencil. We’ve connected with thousands of designers to understand how they could use a tablet in their creative process.

Illustrator for iPad will have full Apple Pencil support, just as you’d expect, and the whole experience will be rethought to work best on a tablet device. And because Creative Cloud will also be part of the design, we can expect files to be easily accessible on iPad, even if they’ve been created on a Mac or PC. The same goes for transferring files in the opposite direction, too.

We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information on how development on Illustrator for iPad goes. We’ll let you know when we have more information, too.
