Volkswagen Cars Get Siri Shortcuts Support For Locking / Unlocking Vehicle, Setting Temperature And More

If you own a car that is compatible with VW’s Car-Net service, then you’re in luck after the company confirmed that a new update now allows users to interact with their car by using Siri as well as Siri Shortcuts.

Following the update, asking Siri to “lock my car” will see the digital assistant do exactly that, all from the power of your iPhone, iPad, or HomePod.

Depending on the model of car, users will also be able to do all manner of things via the app. Owners will now be able to start or stop a charging session, set a temperature remotely, flash lights and honk horns and more.

With the addition of Siri Shortcuts, users will also be able to create custom phrases for all manner of interactions while also creating more complex automations alongside smart home commands.

“We are constantly looking at innovative ways to make VW Car-Net more convenient and relevant for our customers,” said Abdallah Shanti, EVP, Global Chief Information Officer Volkswagen Brand & Car-IT. “With Siri Shortcuts, creating voice commands to use with our mobile app was a great opportunity to do just that! Integration with Siri helps our drivers keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.”

Imagine being able to tell a HomePod to warm your car up and open the garage door all with one voice command. This, and more, is all possible thanks to the inclusion of Siri Shortcuts and the Shortcuts app with the iOS 12 update that arrived this past September.
