This iPhone 8 Concept Shows Off Bezel-Less Display, Invisible FaceTime Camera, In-Screen Touch ID, More

We’re still months away from an official iPhone 8 reveal, but already we’ve seen a number of concept designs and renders floating around the Internet. Some of those concepts are based predominantly on rumors and speculation, and likely have some basis in reality, whereas others are simply wild imaginings from creative types.

Now, designers Ran Avni and Thiago M Duarte have essentially tipped their hat with the release of their own concept video, showing off a next-generation iPhone with an edge-to-edge display and under-screen Touch ID.

It’s worth mentioning in the first instance that pretty much all concept designs from this point onwards will likely focus on the edge-to-edge display with a nearly bezel-less design.

Multiple well-placed sources have “confirmed” that this will be a big part of iPhone 8, meaning designers and creative would be ill-judged to discount it in their creations. In this instance, it hasn’t been ignored, with the device being referred to as ‘iPhone Edition’, with the accompanying tagline of ‘Everything is Changing’, and featuring a stunning full-sized OLED display.

A design with a bezel-less front undeniably brings with its own challenges, both for Apple and concept creators. With this particular design, two of those challenges have been overcome by showing a front-facing camera embedded within the glass panel, putting it out of sight but allowing it to be used exactly as previous devices. This particular concept from Avni and Duarte also features a Touch ID experience on the front of the device, rather than embedded on the rear as recent speculation has alluded to.

One new addition to this concept is the suggestion that Apple’s next-generation iPhone could ship with four speakers for a significantly enhanced audio experience. The video shows a speaker on each corner of the device just like the original iPad Pro, rather than the dual-speaker featured on iPhone 7/7 Plus’ either side of the Lightning connector on the bottom of the device.

It’s likely that Apple’s next-generation iPhone will contain some of the features highlighted in this concept. After all, the display configuration is based on reliable speculation.

Check out the video for yourself and see what you think, even if just to look at the beautiful white version of the handset teased in the video.
