You can use it to cook custom firmware files without the upgraded (2.10.4 / 05.14.02) baseband for iPhone 4, 3GS and iPhone 3G running on iOS 4.1 so that you can unlock it using the existing version of Ultrasn0w. The iPhone Dev Team has finally released PwnageTool 4.1 which is based on recently released Geohot’s bootrom-based Limera1n exploit. This exploit enables this new version of PwnageTool to build custom firmware files for A4 devices like iPhone 4, iPad, Apple TV 2G and iPod touch 4G which was something, previously not possible.

MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has teased a little video which shows off the upcoming PwnageTool in action. This new version of PwnageTool is based on Geohot’s Limera1n bootrom exploit which will allow us to restore custom cooked firmwares (without the upgraded 05.14.04 / 2.10.4 basebands) on almost all the current iOS devices, including: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), Apple TV, iPad and iPod touch 4G / 3G.

For those of you who don’t know, Sn0wbreeze for Windows works like PwnageTool for Mac which helps you in creating custom firmware files so that you can upgrade to new firmware without upgrading your baseband. This allows you to use the existing version of Ultrasn0w for unlocking the phone so that you can use it with any carrier you like.

The iPhone Dev Team has just updated PwnageTool to version 4.01, bringing fix for iBooks on iPhone which was problematic on pwned and hacktivated iOS devices running iOS 4. Almost everything else remains the same except for this issue, and so it is recommended that you jailbreak your iPhone again if were having issues with the last release of PwnageTool.

The official release of PwnageTool 4.0 for creating custom ipsw files for iOS 4.0 is now LIVE! The infamous iPhone Dev-Team has updated their PwnageTool for Mac to make it compatible with the newly released iOS 4 for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (non-MC model only). The custom .ipsw firmware files created with PwnageTool can update iPhone to iOS 4 without updating its baseband. iPod touch 2G MC model and iPod touch 3G is currently not supported.

There is a new modified version of PwnageTool floating around in the wild which promises to jailbreak iPhone 3GS on iPhone OS 4 Beta without upgrading the baseband. The creators of the original PwnageTool has confirmed that this version has been modified and redistributed without their permission, and most importantly, it doesn’t patches some important files which are required for the ultrasn0w unlock to work properly.

Yet another update to Sn0wbreeze has been released. This new update version 3.1.3 V1.5.2 brings fix for 64-bit users who were earlier having problems using this software with their iPhone on 64-bit Windows machines. Also added in this version is more speed and reliability, and the package has now been reduced to just 18mb in size. Unfortunately though, Blacksn0w unlock for iPhone 3GS is still crippled in this version, but you can follow the fix posted here for blacksn0w to unlock 05.11.07 baseband on this latest firmware. If you have iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS or iPhone touch 1G/2G, you can use sn0wbreeze to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3.

PwnageTool 3.1.5 for creating iPhone 3.1.3 custom ipsw files is now LIVE! The infamous iPhone Dev-Team has updated their PwnageTool for Mac to make it compatible with the new iPhone 3.1.3 firmware. This latest version of PwnageTool can jailbreak the original iPhone (Edge/2G), iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS(older bootrom only with baseband 04.26.08) and iPod touch (1G and 2G non-MC model; 2G should also be pre-jailbroken) running on iPhone firmware 3.1.3. The custom .ipsw firmware files created with PwnageTool can update iPhone to firmware 3.1.3 without updating its baseband so that it can be unlocked to run on any carrier SIM. If you previously relied on blacksn0w unlock for iPhone 3GS, then this is NOT for you. iPod touch 3G is also currently not supported.

But unlike the PwnageTool, Sn0wbreeze is fully compatible to work with Windows 7/Vista and XP machines.
