After a couple of months anxiously waiting, the very first iOS 5 untethered jailbreak arrived in a blaze of glory just two day ago, and techies far and wide running Apple’s latest mobile OS duly obliged to the calling of the iPhone Dev Team’s ever-reliable utility.
Since the public release of iOS 5 in October, a number of tweaks have appeared on Cydia which offer the ability to hook into iOS 5-only functions, with the most popular by far being the the new Notification Center. I can only assume most developers have been literally chomping at the bit to put their skills to the test in order to see what they can do with the new Siri technology.
The jailbreak community is well known not only for innovation and the production of tweaks which enhance iOS devices, but also for the wealth of development talent which exists in and around the community. Ask any regular jailbreaker and I would put money on the fact that they could confidently name at least a handful of developers who produce the tweaks that we find within Cydia.
With the untethered jailbreak now available to iOS 5 users, Cydia enthusiasts will now be frantically clogging their devices with various tweaks from Saurik’s App Store alternative.
Well known and respected developer chpwn has finally released first legal Siri port to public for older generation iOS devices. Dubbed as Spire, the port allows iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G/3G and first-gen iPad users, jailbroken on iOS 5, to run Siri, which has official been available only for iPhone 4S users.
