Most of people nowadays carry smartphones around with them wherever they go, and while this is useful for a multitude of reasons, it means if that so-called Kodak moment arises, it will not be missed. As time goes on, smartphone cameras have gotten much better, and through the last couple of revisions of iOS, Apple has experimented with ways to make it easier for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to quickly take a shot with minimal fuss. iOS brought he camera button to the lock screen, which has since evolved into an icon/slider, but if that still isn't quick enough for you, jailbreak developer flux has come through with a nifty tweak called QuickShoot which allows you to take a shot almost instantaneously by tapping that Camera app icon.
I was playing my favorite iOS game earlier today (Disc Drivin', for those interested), and, mid-shot, I was rudely interrupted by that very obtrusive, rarely useful popup notification telling me I had 20% battery left. Lo and behold, I messed up my shot, and like many jailbreakers, took to Cydia to find a solution. There are many tweaks offering to change the way popup notifications look and behave, but I was in the hunt for something battery-specific, and found solace in the form of LowPowerBanner.
iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users invariably go through the jailbreak process on their devices for a variety of different reasons. Some want to alter the aesthetics of the operation system. AirPlay, as anybody using it will probably vouch, isn't a perfectly refined product, but it is something most iOS and OS X users are grateful to have as a streaming option. The iOS dock has not changed a great deal in its time. In fact, even in the days when Apple's mobile firmware was known as iPhone OS, the dock was the same, passive ensemble of icons it remains today, but thanks to the jailbreak scene, this needn't be the case anymore. Joining the large number of dock-based apps and tweaks comes ActiveDock, which makes your iOS dock look as though it has come straight from OS X; and boy, does it do a great job.
The mobile experience offered by Safari on iOS is reasonable, without perhaps being considered inspiring, but tweak after tweak from the Cydia Store over the past few years has ensured the app is as functional as possible. Joining the ranks of SafariDM, Tab+ and others comes SafariSwipez, which purports to offer a tab-closing experience "the way Apple should have implemented".
The iPod touch is seen as the "iPhone without the phone part" by many, and while this is true to a degree (and Apple would love for you to think this), the truth is, the iPod touch falls short in every department against its cellular rival. It's not just every piece of hardware that is inferior to the iPhone, many software elements - besides those used for calling and tethering - have been skipped with the iPod touch for no good reason. The iPhone 5, for example, offers a nifty feature which allows you to capture still images from video while you are recording, and although it's only a minor feature, Apple felt it best only to offer it exclusively to iPhone 5 owners. Thankfully, the jailbreak scene is on hand to nullify this decision, and Still Capture Enabler delivers exactly what it purports to do.
Many of you will probably not use Siri often enough to have realized, but when the voice-recognition software is in action, banner notifications are disabled by default. Clearly intended to free up as much of the interface as possible for the information yielded by Siri, it's perhaps counter-intuitive to enjoy one feature whilst forgoing another, and thus, jailbreak developer Sirifl0w has created a tweak to enable the notifications when consulting Siri.
