Real Racing 3 has finally arrived for iOS and Android in the U.S., and is available to download right now from the respective stores of each platforms. Being free to play, it's sure to attract a large audience, and if you enjoy the likes of Asphalt or Need for Speed, then Real Racing 3 is a release you'll most certainly want to try out.
Batteries. They're a bit of a nightmare aren't they? If you think about it, you can never really have enough battery life, but you don't want to pay for it by having a thick, heavy handset that just can't compete with today's super svelte offerings. It's one of life's modern conundrums, and it's not going away.
The Nexus live wallpaper is probably the most strikingly unmistakable of all the live wallpapers around. The colors shooting across the screen provide a subtle amount of activity to add an extra dimension to your wallpaper, but manage to do so without being too distracting. If you've always liked the look of the Nexus live wallpaper but, being on iOS, have yet to enjoy it on your device, you now can thanks to a little jailbreak tweak aptly called LivePaper, and its addon Nexus LivePaper.
Adobe's Photoshop Touch app has been available for quite some time now for those who use a medium or full size tablet device. With so many standard smartphones around, it seems only right and proper that one of the world's largest software developers have taken the decision to extend the app with a version now being available specifically for smartphone devices.
The mobile experience offered by Safari on iOS is reasonable, without perhaps being considered inspiring, but tweak after tweak from the Cydia Store over the past few years has ensured the app is as functional as possible. Joining the ranks of SafariDM, Tab+ and others comes SafariSwipez, which purports to offer a tab-closing experience "the way Apple should have implemented".
Remember what iOS was like before the days of folders? Page after page of assorted icons, and not only was it impractical, but an eyesore. Since iOS 4, things have been much easier to manage, but customization of said folders has been typically lacking from Apple. Despite boasting a dual-core A6 processor, not even the latest iPhone 5 can handle more than a few icons in one folder, and as for the folder icons themselves cannot be altered to look less cluttered. As jailbreakers will know, there are plenty of tweaks - namely chpwn's InfiniFolders and ashikase's revered FolderEnhancer - to allow for more icons in one folder, and if you've been looking for a way to change the folder icons from 3x3 to an altogether less-cluttered 2x2, you now can thanks to 2x2 Folder Icons.
Many of you will probably not use Siri often enough to have realized, but when the voice-recognition software is in action, banner notifications are disabled by default. Clearly intended to free up as much of the interface as possible for the information yielded by Siri, it's perhaps counter-intuitive to enjoy one feature whilst forgoing another, and thus, jailbreak developer Sirifl0w has created a tweak to enable the notifications when consulting Siri.
Even with a fleet of enhancements and improvements with iOS 6 - including support for the iPad - Siri is still lacking in many departments. Apple has stipulated in the past that the voice assistant is currently still in beta stage, but after some eighteen months with the end user, the vast majority of folks rarely - or never - call upon the services offered by Siri. For those jailbroken however, the Cydia Store has come up with a variety of ways one maximize the potential of Siri, and AssistantEnhancer is perhaps one of the best we've seen to date. Created by Zaid Elkurdi, it unlocks a whole new world of possibilities while also making better what Siri is already capable of.
Airplane mode is a great little feature of iOS. If you wish to sacrifice all connections for the benefit of saving battery, Airplane mode ensures your device can stay alive for as long as possible. But unfortunately, it is not possible to schedule this so, at times when your device is not / will not be in use, such as at night, you can save on battery life. Thanks to Cydia tweakster Zmaster, however, this is now a possibility, and his AirplaneScheduler tweak allows you to set your iOS device to flit in and out of Airplane mode depending on the times set by you.
Instagram is the most popular social network for the editing and sharing of images, and although the user base continues to grow exponentially, the app itself is far from perfect. Not only could the UI benefit from a makeover, but several options one would perhaps expect from an app of this kind are clearly lacking. The ability to zoom in, for example, is something we can easily do natively on iOS, but when it comes to Instagram, those pinch-in and pinch-out gestures are to no avail. Luckily, a tweak by the name of Instahancer not only solves this particular caveat, but a bunch of other little nagging issues, and we'll be taking a closer look at how it works it magic after the break.
