We have come across a very, very useful app today on Android, it’s called DeskSMS and it lets users send and receive text messages from their desktop/laptop using a web browser, Gmail or Google Talk.
One of Android’s greatest features is just how much customizable it is. This feature can be taken both as an advantage or as a disadvantage, but most platform-agnostic folks will agree to the fact that that the joy you get out of testing different ROMs on Android is unmatched by any other mobile OS in the market today.
With Google+ slowly, but surely taking the world by storm, few would argue that the key to launching and maintaining a popular social networking experience is at least one popular, and feature rich, mobile app.
When Google launched its Google Plus social network into beta recently, the company also launched an accompanying Android app. Unfortunately though, this app is currently only available on the US Android Market, leaving everyone not based in the good ol' US of A, out of luck.
Call of Duty Elite, Activision's recently announced subscription based stat tracking oddity has many interesting facets, but one that's not been talked about too much is the mobile applications that will give users access to the world of Call of Duty on their travels. New apps for iPhone, iPad and Android are on the horizon and promise to go some way toward making the yet unspecified subscription free worthwhile.
iPhone and Android users are probably aware of Landscape mode, a feature that automatically adjusts apps when users turn the phone sideways. However, on the Android platform, some apps just don't look good turned sideways. Thankfully, there's Smart Rotator, which allows you to set which installed Apps will rotate.
There is nothing more irritating than having your phone spammed by calls from numbers you don't know. Chances are they're either robots asking you automated questions from a list on a questionnaire, or one of the many company's that manage to get hold of the renewal date for your mobile phone. The problem is though, there's only one way to really find out and that means giving the offending number a call back. Not ideal.
If you're an avid Android user, you've probably heard of the vast collection of emulators that are available for the platform: Apps that simulate other platforms, such as Game Boy Advances or Nintendo N64's. If you use or planned to get those Apps, you might be sad to hear that they're gone from the Android Market.
Android's user interface is nice-looking, but it's nothing outstanding. Thankfully, Android is an incredibly customizable operating system, making modifying it almost a must for power users. If you've been looking for a good alternative interface, Launcher 7 might be a good choice for you. It's a port of Windows Phone 7's look, with a few extra customization features that make this a must-try.
When you're beavering away at your computer, the last thing you want to do is break the concentration to find your phone just to fire off a quick SMS. Maybe you want to access the camera from afar? Now thanks to a handy remote app called LazyDroid, you can control your Android smartphone from the comfort of your desk without ever having to lay hands on it.
