Some AirPods Pro Units Are Already Being Made In Vietnam Now Instead Of China

As Apple continues to try to diversify its production channels and reduce it’s reliance on China there’s been a concerted effort to move manufacturing to other countries, including Vietnam.

Now, some people are noticing that their new AirPods Pro were built in Vietnam rather than China.

This follows a report from Nikkei last week that suggested that the production of AirPods Pro had expanded to Vietnam as recently as March. We’re not starting to see those earbuds arrive in the hands of customers.

“The mass production of ‌AirPods‌ in Vietnam started as early as in March,” a person familiar with the matter said. “The Vietnamese officials even granted special permits for a key Apple ‌AirPods‌ assembler to help the company bring in engineers to the country for smooth production during lockdowns.” Vietnam began easing some lockdown measures in late April.

Vietnam is also the location that Apple is expected to use for the production of its upcoming AirPods Studio over-ear headphones. They’re expected to be announced in the coming weeks so it’s likely production will kick off soon, if it hasn’t already.

Apple has also been rumored to have plans to move some iPhone production to Vietnam as well, although India is also a country that already has iPhone production on its books.
