Seas0nPass Updated To Tether-Jailbreak Apple TV 2G On The New 5.0.1 (9B206F) Firmware

Apple have only recently pushed out their latest update for the second and third-generation Apple TV, but already the ever reliable and always hard working development teams have been at work implementing their packages in order to bring the public a tethered jailbreak for Apple’s puck like set-top box.

The guys over at FireCore have acted quickly to push out an update to their Seas0nPass software that gives users the benefit of a tethered jailbreak on the latest Apple TV 2G 5.0.1 (9B206F) firmware. Although not an ideal solution, the tethered jailbreak is definitely better than nothing and represents a clear and concise step in the right direction, but also means that jailbreakers will need to boot the Apple TV unit as tethered every time it is powered down or rebooted. It is also important to note that this jailbreak is only applicable to the second-generation Apple TV, NOT the new 3rd-gen Apple TV which was released in March.

To get started, head on over to the FireCore’s website and download the latest version of the official Seas0nPass software for your operating system (direct links: Windows / Mac). Before beginning, check that your machine has the latest version of the iTunes software installed on it. At the time of writing, the most recent version is 10.6.1. If your iTunes installation is not up to date, make sure that it is updated before continuing.

Since instructions for jailbreaking Apple TV 2G on the latest firmware are same as they were on the last firmware, therefore simply download the latest version of Seas0nPass, and head over to the instructions posted here to get a tethered jailbreak on your 2nd-gen Apple TV.

Once again, another Apple firmware update has come and gone with the development teams proving that jailbreaking is still going strong. As far as the jailbreak for 3rd-gen Apple TV is concerned, there is currently no word on when or if it ever will be available. Pod2g’s upcoming untether for iOS 5.1.1 may not be applicable to 3rd-gen Apple TV. Looks like we will have to wait a fair bit before we get any untethered jailbreak solution for Apple’s 3rd-gen set-top box.
