Samsung Galaxy S11 Could Feature 108MP Camera, 5x Telephoto Lens, ToF Sensor, More [Report]

If you’ve been keeping tabs on the recent Galaxy S11 renders, you’ve probably noticed that large, really large camera bump around the back. Now we might know why it’s so large, with Bloomberg reporting that Samsung’s next big release will pack a 108-megapixel camera.

That camera will be joined by an ultrawide lens, as well as a 5x telephoto lens. To round things out, there’s also said to be a time-of-flight sensor similar to the one already used in Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 Plus.

If that 108-megapixel camera sounds like overkill, it’s actually a part that’s already set to be used in the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha. And it’s already available in the Mi Note 10 from the same company.

By using that camera in the flagship Galaxy S11, it’s clear Samsung has faith that it will be up to the task in a world where Google and Apple are constantly pushing software enhancements rather than megapixel counts.

We’ve known for a long time that the number of megapixels isn’t all that matters when trying to put together a great camera. Apple in particular has said that it’s the quality of the pixels that matters, so it will be super interesting to see how this Samsung Galaxy S11 turns out. Assuming Bloomberg’s report is accurate, of course.

The Galaxy S11 is expected to be announced in the first few months of 2020.
