Report: Apple’s Next iPad mini Will Get An A15 Processor, USB-C, And More

A new report claims that the next iPad mini will come with the latest Apple A15 processor as well as a USB-C port for connectivity. The same report also claims that a magnetic Smart Connector will also be part of the system.

According to the 9to5Mac report, the machine carries the codename J310 currently. The addition of a USB-C port will also mark another stage of the death of Lightning across the iPad lineup.

According to the sources, Apple is planning to use the A15 chip inside the new iPad mini, just like the new iPhones expected to be released later this year. The A15 chip will use the same 5-nanometer fabrication process as the A14, and our sources indicate Apple is also working on a more powerful A15X variant that could be used in other iPads down the line.

The addition of a Smart Connector will allow for easy connecting to devices like keyboards, too.

The same report goes on to say that Apple’s next 10.2-inch entry-level iPad will also borrow heavily from the iPad Air 3 design, allowing for a thinner and lighter design than anything the iPad has offered so far.

That iPad will reportedly come with an Apple A13 processor, an upgrade on the A12 that was used in the previous iPad.
