After weeks of rumors, gossips, leaks and revelations, the much hyped Nexus One (aka the Google Phone) has finally been unveiled today in a press event ceremony held at the Google Headquarters in Mountain View, California. Powered by Android 2.1 operating system, the Google Nexus One features 3.7’’ AMOLED screen, 1Ghz Snapdragon processor with 512mb of Ram and 5 megapixels autofocus camera with flash. The phone has been designed by Google and is manufactured through their partner HTC.
Engadget in its extensive review of Google Nexus One carried out a web browser speed comparison test between iPhone 3GS, Nexus One and Motorola Droid. The test involved opening of engadget.com homepage at the same time on all the three handsets, running on a local WiFi network. Mobile Safari on iPhone 3GS dwarfed both the Android based devices by a long shot.
The greatest strength of Apple and iPhone has always been the availability of over 100,000 apps in the iTunes App Store. No other phone manufacturer has so far been able to match the success that Apple’s App Store has got in its first year alone. There is an app for just about anything one can think off. And so, today, Apple has announced that more than three billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store by iPhone and Pod touch users worldwide. Apple in the recent past introduced an amazing and rather sensational product called Magic Mouse which introduced iPhone style multitouch gestures for Macs. Later on, some folks managed to hack the Boot Camp drivers of Magic Mouse to make it unofficially run on PCs running any version of Windows from XP to 7.
Remember all those rumors regarding Apple’s tablet launch in January? Well according to fresh reports from All Things D and Mac4Ever, Apple is set to unveil a “major” product (most probably the iSlate tablet) come this January 27th, and not January 26th which was reported previously. This mega media event will be held at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
PhoneArena has managed to grab leaked documents of the upcoming Apple tablet via an anonymous tipster, which reveals the detailed specifications of the said device. While the authenticity of the document is in question, what is more interesting is the fact that it will be running on top of Intel Core 2 Duo processor, will feature projection capabilities, and will be powered by OS X 10.7 “Clouded Leopard”.
Folks over at AllDroid have managed to port the multitouch capable web browser from the European version of Droid i.e. Motorola Milestone over to the Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless. For those of you who don’t know, Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless in US doesn’t support multitouch functionality in most apps even though the hardware is fully capable of running it. This is probably due to the US iPhone patents because of which even the Google Nexus One wont be able to support multitouch functionality.
According to a recent job posting, the iPhone team at Apple is looking for a software engineer with expertise in WiFi a/b/g/n and related specifications. This could possibly indicate that the next gen iPhone 4G is finally going to support 802.11n WiFi standard. The job specifications are as follows.
The final price plan for Google Nexus One which was leaked last week reveled that the unlocked version of the said phone will go on sale for US $529.99, and the one locked with T-Mobile for 2 years contract will cost US $179.99. So as it turned out, these prices are only good as long as you are getting the phone from US, either from Google itself or from T-Mobile because internationally, Nexus One is going to cost a lot more.
