It's becoming a rather familiar trajectory; game becomes popular on mobile devices, sells millions, makes a household name of itself, and then inks a deal to make a movie. Angry Birds already has a film in production due for release in 2016, and Temple Run, that Indiana Jones-esque running title that looked as if it was based on a movie in the first place, will also be hitting screens in the not-so-distant future. A Warner Bros. movie, the studio has enlisted David Heyman, producer of the immensely popular Harry Potter series, to take Temple Run to the box office.
As soon as Android 4.4 KitKat was formally announced, it was certain that the newer Nexus devices will definitely be getting the new version of the operation system. Nexus 4, the one year old Nexus flagship that is still plenty powerful, obviously made the cut, but it didn’t get an OTA update for the latest Android version as soon as it surfaced on Nexus 5. All we kept hearing was “a few weeks” without any definitive availability date. Well, we guess it’s pretty close now, as Google has posted the factory images for Android 4.4 KitKat for the Nexus 4 on its developer portal.
Now that Sony's PlayStation 4 console is officially available to purchase, we can sit back and watch the floods of reviews come in from those lucky enough to get their hands on one. Today's average video game fanatic will more than likely be interested in the computational power of the console and how it renders game visuals on screen rather than the internal intricacies of the hardware. However, whenever any new consumer product is released that grabs public attention, we can always rely on the iFixit team to void their own warranty and show us areas of the hardware that the average user will never see, or potentially even care about.
It's hard to keep track of how many insanely powerful smartphones exist in today's market. Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy range of hardware seem to gain most of the attention, and let's be honest here, it is rather difficult to find a better all-round alternative to those beasts. But what do you do if you're the type of person who doesn't like to follow the pack or jump on popular bandwagons? Do you boycott a mobile device altogether, stick with an old-school feature phone or opt for something totally unique? The Russians over at Yota Devices would like you to opt for the latter and get involved with a device the likes of which we've never seen before.
Nike and Apple, as many of you will know, are very closely tied. The fruit company's CEO is on the sportswear specialist's board of directors, and many of Nike's tech ventures have encircled the iOS device range. FuelBand, the wrist-worn fitness and activity gadget, is only officially supported with a companion app for those on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and the relationship between two of the most influential entities in their respective fields seems to blossom increasingly with each year. Following Apple's release of the iPhone 5s in gold back in September - an unprecedented move for the company's iconic smartphone - Nike has followed suit, offering a sleek, rose gold color option to the newly updated FuelBand SE. Check it out in all its glory after the break.
Yes you read that right. According to MuscleNerd, iOS 7.0.4 is jailbreak safe. Whenever a new version of iOS is released, it's almost as though the slate is wiped clean, and all of the hard work before it is essentially diminished.
One of the most anticipated app releases for any platform is finally here. The social magazine app, Flipboard, that made headlines over the iPad, then iPhone and then Android, has finally made its way to Microsoft’s latest desktop computing platform, Windows.
With the PlayStation 4 set to be released within the next 24 hours and the Xbox One hitting the retail market next Friday, the console fanboys are out in full force, offering lopsided, oft baseless reasons why one is better than the other. Never one to hold back when it comes to making a joke of things, the creators of South Park have put together a scene in this week's episode dedicated to the next-gen battle, with heavy reference to the Black Friday sales beginning next week. As can be seen online in YouTube comments, on forums and other such mediums, an innocent debate quickly descends into a fanboy flame war, before ending on a typically offensive note. Check it out after the break!
The launch of the Sony PlayStation 4 is very nearly upon us, and with just a matter of hours to go before it makes its debut in the United States, the last thing Sony needs right now is a large-scale technical hitch. However, according to a tweet from the company's President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida, Sony has mounted an investigation into supposed reported pre-launch hardware issues pertaining the PS4, and although he was reassuring in is announcement that "the number [affected] is very small compared to shipped" and that the Japanese firm believes the units affected are merely "isolated incidents," the situation is far from ideal.
Both the App and Google Play Stores have allowed countless publishers and developers to flourish with new, quirky, made-for-touchsceen titles. But as well as serving as the perfect platform for the likes of Tiny Wings, Angry Birds, Candy Crush et al, the rise of the mobile app market has allowed those old classics to be ported and lovingly remade for the modern day. King of Fighters is one such classic, and having already been the subject of a rather unsuccessful re-launch on Android back in 2012, is back for another stab - or should we say punch. After a few rather underwhelming releases since KoF first appeared last year, The King of Fighters '97 has just hit the Play Store, and with its makers seeming to have gotten things right this time, looks a relative snip at $3.99.
