After all the waiting, Nintendo finally properly announced the Switch 2 alongside a ton of details and game information, and here’s everything you need to know.
Whether you’re looking to buy a new Nintendo Switch 2 to enter the Nintendo world for the first time or you’re upgrading from the Switch, there is a lot going on here.
Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date and Price
While Nintendo had already confirmed the Switch 2 was on the way, now we know when it will be released and how much it will cost. The Switch 2 will officially launch on June 5, 2025, and you’ll pay $450 to get one. Preorders start on April 9.
Confirmed Nintendo Switch Hardware Details
After all the rumors, we now finally know what the Switch 2 will be able to do, starting with support for a 1080p resolution via the 7.9-inch display. It isn’t OLED, but the LCD display does support HDR and a 120Hz refresh rate at least.
We also saw confirmation that the new Joy-Con 2 controllers will offer a mouse feature in compatible games, while there are bigger SL and SR buttons, too.
A new kickstand means the Switch 2 is more stable when playing in desktop mode, while there are two USB-C ports; one on the top, one on the bottom. The new Dock supports 4K video output while the Switch 2 has 256GB of storage.
Nintendo says the Switch 2’s games come on similar carts to the original model, albeit ones capable of transferring data more speedily. Support for WiFi 6 should mean fast connectivity, while up to 6.5 hours of battery life has been quoted.
New Video Chat
Nintendo announced a new chat feature called GameChat, accessible via a new C button. Voice chat works whether the Switch 2 is docked or not, and the addition will be a popular one among multiplayer gamers.
New games
Nintendo announced some new games for the Switch 2, starting with Mario Kart World which adds new tracks as well as an open world component that will also feature weather and change the time of day. Nintendo promises that players will be able to drive “virtually everywhere,” but we’ll need to see how this really works to be sure.
Other games announced include Hades II, Street Fighter 6, Split Fiction, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 +4, Hitman: World of Assassination, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and Daemon x Machina.
New old games
Nintendo confirmed that it will be launching Switch 2 upgrades for some of its more popular titles, including those with Zelda in the title. There is no word on how much these will cost, though.
