LibreELEC Kodi 17.6 Krypton 8.2.1 Download Now Available, Here Are The Details

The latest LibreELEC Kodi 17.6 Krypton 8.2.1 download is now live and available with immediate effect for all.

The world is currently going crazy for the wonderful Kodi media center software, which is offered by the distributed Kodi team for a variety of platforms, including iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows-based machines. That software allows users to view media stored locally, such as TV shows and movies, by casting them to a connected television set or to even add new and interesting sources and repositories which provide access to an almost unlimited amount of content.

Kodi platform exists in the mainstream, whereas behind the scenes, and for the more dedicated user, there is LibreELEC, which is essentially its own Linux distribution built purely to run Kodi as the main user-interface. Rather than running a version of Linux on a machine, and then downloading and installing Kodi as an app, LibreELEC is the Linux installation which has been built and now updated to execute and run the latest Krypton 17.6 release of Kodi with the recently released version 8.2.1 of the distribution.

What this means is that installing LibreELEC 8.2.1 will get you the latest maintenance release of the project compiled with what is essentially Kodi’s last ever release in the Krypton series, Kodi 17.6. The Kodi team released 17.6 to the public last week, confirming that it was last ever Krypton release before Kodi 18.0 Leia, with the LibreELEC team acting fast to support it.

In addition to functioning as a maintenance release to bring Kodi 17.6 to LibreELEC users, version 8.2.1 of the Linux distribution also contains a relatively minor fix for a time-zone issue which manifested after the recent daylight saving changes. There are also fixes in place for the Apple IR driver which ceased to work after a suspend action, as well as the inclusion of two new SMB client configuration options in Kodi settings that allow a minimum SMB protocol version to be defined.

Of course, for those that are heavily invested in the platform, it’s always good to check out the granular release notes and commits to GitHub to see exactly what’s changed.

For everyone else, LibreELEC 8.2.1 offering Kodi 17.6 Krypton support is now out and available at libreelec.tv/downloads/.
