Jay Freeman, also known as saurik, has announced the release of the latest beta of Cydia 1.1.28 for those with jailbroken devices running iOS 10, and more specifically iOS 10.2.
As part of the progression towards getting Cydia 1.1.28 into a stable position to officially remove the beta tag, this latest release includes a myriad of bug fixes and improvements, as well as a heavy focus on eradicating some of the more service affecting issues that have been experienced by those fortunate enough to have a jailbroken device running iOS 10.
This latest beta version of Cydia 1.1.28 – which we must stress is still very much in beta even though it’s being progressed rapidly – comes with a whole host of bug fixes, but still also ships with a number of known issues, some of which are relatively serious, and some which will literally never be experienced by end-users.
Although a number of patches have been implemented in the eighth and ninth betas of this version of Cydia, they are all there to eradicate serious crashes back to SpringBoard which have been experienced by a variety of users who have upgraded to Cydia 1.1.28. As an example:
In the ninth beta, I fixed another semi-deterministic crash some users were experiencing, as well as modified APT to guarantee it did not decide “engh, I don’t really need to check this repository for updates” when it really should (and was thereby not seeing updates for repositories that have Release but do not use hashes).
Perhaps equally as important, Freeman has also ironed out a number of issues which slowed the Cydia experience down, both in terms of the app launching from SpringBoard, and also the in-app experience of interacting with repositories and packages. Crashes can be a pain when they occur, but a painfully slow experience is equally as frustrating when you’re interacting with the platform on a daily basis. Overall, the latest available version should be a much more pleasurable and enjoyable environment to interact in.

We have mentioned this earlier and will do so here again, Cydia 1.1.28 is still a beta release which means some issues are still to be expected. If you don’t want to deal with any potential problems that you may run into, stick to the default Cydia 1.1.27 that comes packaged with yalu102 jailbreak for iOS 10.2.
