It’s Live: You Can Now Buy A Tesla Using Bitcoin

People buying a Tesla in the United States now have a new option when making their purchase – they can pay with Apple Pay, credit card… and Bitcoin.

The move was teased by CEO Elon Musk previously and now the company is offering the option to those who want to buy their car with crypto.

While only available in the United States currently, Musk does say that we can expect to get the option beyond the country later this year.

Alongside Musk’s tweet confirming the news, he also shared some information on how Tesla is managing payments via Bitcoin.

Tesla is using only internal & open source software & operates Bitcoin nodes directly. Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin, not converted to fiat currency.

Tesla also has a new FAQ available on its site that outlines all of the details. It will continue to price cars in US Dollars, for example, with buyers given the option to convert that to Bitcoin if they so wish. It also details what will happen if people try to use another cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin – namely, you’ll probably lose it.
