GE HomeKit Window Air Conditioner (A/C) Finally Goes On Sale

If you’re an iPhone owner and are into your home automation and smart home technology, then you’re likely already knee deep into HomeKit.

If this sounds like you then a new air conditioner is now available that will play nicely with your setup, and it’s the first HomeKit-enabled product to come out of GE so far.

If you’re looking for an air conditioner then the GE Energy Star 115 Volt Electronic Room Air Conditioner, or AHP08LX as it’s snappily known as, can be picked up right now from Lowe’s for $319, although oddly the GE website does list the MSRP of the air conditioner as $269, suggesting it may be worth hanging fire on that purchase in case it pops up at a more reasonable price in the near future.

The new GE Window Air Conditioner is capable of 8,000 BTUs which should be capable of cooling medium-sized rooms of 250 to 350 square feet and as you might expect, it comes with a WiFi Connect feature that allows the air conditioner to be controlled via a smartphone.

That’s where HomeKit comes in, with the device being monitored and activated via both the Home app and the much maligned Siri. If you so wish then the air conditioning unit can also be included in your HomeKit scenes and automations, so if you want the cooling to kick in when your motion sensor detects you’re home, then you’re all set.

When it comes to HomeKit-enabled air conditioning units then the choice is pretty slim. In fact, the only one with can think of is from Haier and even that is one us only available to those in limited markets.

If you’re on the lookout for an air conditioner that can be controlled by Apple HomeKit, this is possibly the only one you have to choose from!
