Court Filings Reveal Detained Huawei CFO Was Carrying More Apple Products Than Huawei Ones

In what will surely come as a surprise to nobody, it turns out that serial Apple-copier Huawei’s CFO has more Apple gear than most. This comes after Huawei’s Wanzhou Meng was arrested last December, with the CFO having gotten the attention of US investigators over all manner of issues.

According to court filings that were issued this past Friday, the Canadian police who apprehended Meng also seized her sizeable collection of Apple products that were in-hand at the time she was picked up. There was plenty in the collection, although only one of the devices was built by her own company – a Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS. At least she has some taste!

Alongside the Porsche loveliness, Meng was also carrying an iPhone 7 Plus, iPad Pro, and MacBook Air, which is quite the horde for the CFO of a rival company, especially considering Huawei makes competing products in the phone, tablet, and notebook arenas. Why she wasn’t using those is anyone’s guess, although the jokes clearly write themselves.

All of this is particularly interesting considering Huawei’s reputation for taking Apple’s designs and then heavily using them when creating its own devices. Huawei has long been accused of underhand tactics when it comes to getting hold of information from the likes of Apple, and to learn one of the company’s heads is kitted out head-to-toe in Apple hardware is just the icing on the cake.

More importantly, Meng is fighting extradition to the US from Canada currently, where she faces fraud charges that have been put to her by the Department of Justice.
