A little light-hearted mocking of rivaling companies and their products never hurt anybody in the tech industry, and as we've seen through numerous ad campaigns over the years, they're all at it. With MWC not too far away, Huawei has caricatured Apple's Siri voice assistant to rib both the Cupertino company and rival Samsung, while also promoting its new, to-be-announced smartphone and tablet. Check out the humorous clip right after the break!
Just when you thought that the fashion world couldn't get any more weird, someone decided to throw the smartphone industry into the mix, just to see what kind of un-Godly concoction they could come up with. The result? A skirt made from Nokia 1020 and 1520 smartphones.
Tim Cook recently hinted that Apple had a few new and exciting products up its sleeve for release later on this year, and although, when he talked of the "new product category," he was probably referring to the likes of the rumored iWatch, there's also been a great deal of speculation pertaining to an much larger iPad Pro. We've seen and heard plenty regarding the device, which many believe will pack a mammoth 12.9-inch display, and given that such a machine would be stepping into territory currently occupied by the MacBook range, one savvy design team has dreamed up a concept of the iPad Pro running Apple's desktop OS X operating system.
The Galaxy S5 will be revealed in a couple of weeks at Samsung Unpacked 2014, which is scheduled to take place just before the opening of this year's Mobile World Congress, but while we've a rough idea of the tech specs, the Korean mobile giant has done a pretty good job of keeping the device itself under lock-and-key. Being tech fans, we're simply itching to see what's in store, and designer Jinesh Shah has cooked up a visual image of the device that not only offers a rough guide as to the form factor, but also takes into account recent TouchWiz icon leaks to present a neat, conceptualized UI to go with it. Check it out after the fold!
Time and time again we witness companies putting together ad campaigns that highlight appealing aspects of their products, but how many are actually prepared to stand by those claims? It appears that Sony is on a mission to prove to the New Zealand population that its latest personal MP3 player is indeed waterproof, and have even brought a specialist advertising agency on board to try and get the message across. In conjunction with Auckland based DraftFCB, Sony has concocted the Bottled Walkman campaign that validates the waterproof claims by selling the latest Walkman MP3 player submerged in a bottle of water.
It has been claimed that Apple is sharpening its claws for an assault on the mobile fitness industry, with a so-called Healthbook app presenting a Passbook-esque interface of stacked cards, each containing different snippets of information related to your overall personal fitness and well-being. Today, designer Carlos Quijano has thrown up a concept design of Healthbook for iOS 8 in action, featuring, among other ideas, integration with the elusive iWatch.
As with anything that becomes part of popular culture, recently-pulled Flappy Bird game has already spawned one or two copycat / spin-off titles. Doge, for those unfamiliar, is an Internet meme depicted by a Shiba Inus dog, and since said meme is predominantly used to invoke humor, one particularly funny guy has come up with the idea of 'Flappy Doge,' a Web-based browser game that essentially replaces some of Flappy Bird's graphics with those relating to Doge. But hey, if you just want your old game back, there's also a HTML5-based clone edition of Flappy Bird, too!
The iPhone is considered a very expensive device to own, but the fact that newer technologies become cheaper with every year enables vendors like Apple to ensure that each new model packs more new and exciting features for roundabout the same price. If prices of the raw materials remained constant, building a handset like the iPhone would be impossible on a large scale, and to emphasize this point, Tech Policy Daily has carried out some research on how much an iPhone would have cost to make in 1991.
Last year, Apple took the unprecedented step of releasing two new iPhones simultaneously, introducing both the flagship iPhone 5s and the colorful, cheaper iPhone 5c. But according to numerous reports, the Cupertino company has similar plans for this year, and is supposedly preparing device with a slight display increase on what we've seen hitherto, as well as a further model sporting a larger, 5-inch+ panel for a great deal more real estate. Latching onto this, designer Federico Ciccarese, whose incredible talents have been featured on many occasions here at Redmond Pie in the past, has dreamed up yet another beautiful set of renders for the two upcoming handsets. Prepare to be wowed after the break!
As the president of the United States, Barack Obama is more than used to having his picture taken. Part of the burden that comes with being among the world's most powerful leaders, he cannot escape the press taking snaps and recording video on his every move. In a more light-hearted environment such as a classroom, though, a busy man like the president gets a rare chance to kick back and enjoy himself, and as you'll see in the clip below, he took full advantage on one visit to a school in Maryland by taking some amusing videos of his personal press team using an Apple iPad.
