The next Apple smartphone, unofficially dubbed the "iPhone 6," will reportedly arrive in two different configurations - both of which are said to be larger than any iPhone released hitherto. As well as a 4.7-inch model, there will, it has been suggested, also be a 5.5-inch variant, and both of these new handsets could, as other bits of info have implied, be notably thinner than its would-be predecessor, akin to the new iPad Air. With this in mind, one concept maker has come through with an 'iPhone Air' concept, and as well as a stunning appearance, it also boasts a fairly tasty list of specs. Check it out below.
Living in a world where our smartphones are the center of our lives may not be too far away, but being able to place it on a table and have it start doing all kinds of magical things wasn't on our list of wants for that utopian future. At least, it wasn't until Pizza Hut got in on the act.
We've mulled other what seems like thousands of concepts pertaining to the so-called Apple iWatch, and even though designers and fans of the idea have been tripping over themselves to put a face to the name, we're still none the wiser as to what the fruit company has in its plans. Today, designer Gábor Balogh has come through with a rather interesting take on the iWatch, which sticks with the recognized form factor of a normal wristwatch while cramming in all of the digital niceties that appease us tech fans. With likes of Sony and Samsung having revealed their latest and greatest devices at MWC last week, it will soon be the turn of Taiwanese outfit HTC to showcase its eagerly-awaited successor to the critically-acclaimed 2013 release of the One. Thanks to numerous leaks, we already know most of the key details of the device, known technically as the 'HTC M8', including its stronger processor, larger display and two rear-facing cameras, but with the unveiling set for March 25th, we're going to be waiting a good few weeks beyond that for its release. If patience isn't your forte, perhaps you might be interested in yet another nifty bit of fakery from resident knockoffer Goophone, which has come through a respectable clone of the as-yet unannounced handset. With the recent announcements of the Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2 and the HTC M8 well on the way, it's fair to say that the Android boys have muscled in and dampened the rumors of Apple's next big thing. At present, we're under the impression that there will be two new, significantly larger devices hitting the scene later on this year, but while it looks like the iPhone 5c will be scrapped and forgotten about, one concept designer has come through with an interesting take on what we might end up seeing if Apple does decide to stick with the polycarbonate finish. Check it out after the leap!
Samsung's advertising machine was in full flow once again at the Oscars 2014 ceremony, and when a Galaxy Note-snapped picture by TV personality Ellen DeGeneres surpassed the record for most retweets ever in just half an hour, the marketing and PR department of the electronics firm must have felt as though they'd struck gold. Yet, as ever at these kinds of events, the truth tends to reveal its ugly head backstage, and a later snap uploaded by DeGeneres via Twitter for iPhone suggests that, like a seemingly disproportionately high number of celebs, she's in fact an iPhone user.
If you were blown away by the Galaxy S5, but just can't bring yourself to fill the bank account of Samsung, then fear not, as Goophone has you covered with their imaginatively named S5. Samsung's unveiling of its next flagship device has undoubtedly peaked the interest of the smartphone using community, and based on a quick glance and browse of the device’s specs, you would be forgiven for thinking that the Goophone S5 is the same device. However, it's not. It's a very convincing copy that's taken less than two days to get out into the real world.
When the likes of Samsung announce a new top-of-the-line smartphone the world tends to sit up and take notice. With the Galaxy S5 being announced by that very same company earlier today at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress, it's fairly safe to say that it gets the attention of not just those that are likely to go out and buy one, but also of the companies that make handsets that compete directly against it.
The Advanced Technologies and Projects (ATAP) team over at Google has today unveiled Project Tango, an innovative new piece of smartphone technology that offers genuine 3D motion tracking to mobile devices. The ambitious development, which project lead Johnny Chung Lee describes as being part of a goal "to give mobile devices a human scale understanding of space and motion," looks very exciting indeed, and with seemingly no boundaries as to where this technology could go and how it may eventually be used, a prototype kit has already been prepped for intrigued developers. Further details, including a demonstration video, can be seen after the fold.
Apple and Samsung is a little more than your average company rivalry. There's genuine animosity between the two tech titans, and you only have to look at the ongoing litigation for further evidence of the contempt each feels for the other. Unsurprisingly, both Apple and Samsung regularly take shots at each other with ad campaigns, and in its latest, Sammy has taken a swipe at its old adversary in a new fleet of commercials for the Galaxy Tab Pro and Note 3. Check them out after the fold!
