The constant squabbles and patent-based conflict between Apple and Samsung is a well-documented debacle, and while both companies have agreed to drop several claims each, Apple does feel as though Samsung's recent rise as the number one smartphone vendor is mainly due to plagiarism of its products.
Apple works pretty darned hard to ensure iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users cannot downgrade their devices. Gone are the days when a downgrade could be achieved by simply downloading the older firmware and overwriting, but thanks to the Dev Team and its Redsn0w tool, one can quickly restore to an older version of iOS 5 with minimal fuss.
Stefan Esser, better known within the jailbreak community as i0n1c, has teased via Twitter a snap of his third-generation iPad running Cydia on the brand new iOS 5.1.1 firmware. Interestingly enough, he did the same thing with iOS 5.1, but, as yet, the world has yet to see anything beyond a snippet.
Apple is clearly cracking the productivity whip in their iOS team offices and have wasted no time at all in producing and pushing out an update to their mobile operating system, taking the latest version to 5.1.1. While the latest release might offer some additional features, standard bug fixes and security patches, it also serves to keep the jailbreak development teams on their toes by forcing them to push an update where appropriate for their tools.
So then, that Apple TV's pretty cool right? Right, but you know what's really cool? An imaginary television that may or may not be in the works from a company that refuses to pursue the home entertainment line of products that it already makes.
With its thick veil of secrecy and unique approach to every product it creates, the fascination surrounding Apple is unmatched in the consumer electronics industry, and whether it's the latest iPhone or the memoirs of the late Steve Jobs, a large amount of interest always encircles the Cupertino company.
When iOS 5 was released last October, it brought with it a sleuth of features big - iCloud, Siri, and iMessage most notably - and small, such as the ability to assign individual text tones to contacts, for one. And now that the months are flying by and we're beginning to approach the release date of first beta of the next major version of iOS - iOS 6 - now seems like the perfect time to pen a list of features that I hope Apple introduces to iOS.
The endless possibilities created when that Cydia icon first appears on the iOS home screen should never be underestimated, and it's thanks to the likes of Redsn0w - the popular jailbreak tool released by the iPhone-Dev Team - that users can truly test the resolve of their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch devices.
The Apple iPhone 4S has been with us for about seven months now, which means that we have also had the fabulous Siri personal assistant organizing our digital lives for the same amount of time. For those non iPhone 4S owners the lack of official Siri support has been very frustrating, especially considering numerous developers have proved that Apple's assistant performs perfectly fine on older generation devices.
There's definitely a perverse pleasure in seeing expensive, pristine gadgets being blown up, shot at, and generally defaced for no reason other than pure entertainment.
